It was no surprise that Sean Dyche was given a warm reception when he returned to Vicarage Road for Burnley’s 1-1 draw against Watford yesterday and the Clarets boss revealed he hopes to return to Vicarage Road in the future to watch a game with his children.

The former Hornets player, assistant boss and manager said: “I hope that I did some good things here from my time in various different roles, I left on good terms if you know what I mean. I take great value in that. One day in the future, whenever that is, I’d like to bring my kids down to watch a game and it’s always more comfortable if you can say hello and have a smiley face on.”

During his time as Malky Mackay’s assistant and then manager, Dyche was used to patrolling his technical area in front of the derelict East Stand.

A significant part of that has now been demolished to make way for a new structure and Dyche, who was Hornets boss under Laurence Bassini, remarked pointedly: “I don’t think it was the stand that I was told that was going to be built many moons ago. I’m not quite sure it’s the all-singing all-dancing stand.

“I see the south-west corner’s getting some kind of movement. I must say it’s a considerable time later though because everyone was expecting it to be done a year-and-a-half ago, weren’t they?”
