Sun Postal Sports can smell promotion to the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands League after two impressive home wins this week.

Paul Hobbs' league leaders followed up a 4-0 home win over Harpenden on Saturday with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Southall on Tuesday night to cement their position at the top of the Division One table and crank up the pressure on promotion-chasing Bedford and Kings Langley.

Sun have the comfort of knowing their fate is in their own hands and could well be uncorking the champagne long before they play Bedford – who play Kings on the final day of the season.

Victory for Sun away at Langley a week on Saturday would surely put them on the brink.

"I've got a points total in mind I feel we need to get promoted but I'm just telling the players that if they win every game then we are champions," Hobbs said.

Langley manager Paul Hughes was at Bellmount Wood Avenue on Tuesday to run the rule over Sun.

When he left, just when Jon Davies had brilliantly curled in the fifth from a free-kick, he was in no doubt what a fight his side have on their hands, particularly as they still have to play Southall away in a nine-game spell in just over three weeks.

"Great game. Good tempo. Thought you [Sun Postal] were excellent. Decent Southall team," he posted on Twitter.

Southall have used a staggering 52 players this season and are a dangerous side, as they proved when they beat Sun 4-2 earlier in the season.

Any thoughts that they would roll over after Omar Vassell put Sun one up after just four minutes on Tuesday were quickly dispelled.

Inspired by the excellent Teddy Kapanza, they levelled the score with a speculative free-kick that Ross Hampton made a hash of and then equalised once more after Vassell, who played for Slough Town in the first round of the FA Cup last night, claimed his second.

Sun then moved through the gears in a rousing last 30 minutes. James Armstrong, who scored 100 goals in two seasons for Kings Langley, has 31 this term but he will have not scored many better than the right-footed effort he slammed into the roof of the net to put Sun in front for a third time.

He then converted a penalty to give Sun breathing space before Davies came off the bench to score with his sweet left foot with his first touch.

The three points extended Sun's unbeaten league run to 20 matches, 17 of which have been wins.

Four days earlier they comprehensively beat a Harpenden side who had arrived at the ground with just one defeat in ten matches.

Danny Plumb's men were the more progressive and played some neat stuff in the middle third of the pitch. But Sun were ruthless in both boxes.

Max Moore showed great desire to slam in the opener, the outstanding Ashley Lewis deftly chipped in the second and then headed in number three before Craig Lynskey claimed their 100th league goal of the season with the fourth.

Hobbs would have been just as happy with the clean sheet, achieved thanks to a master class in man marking from Scott Bonner.

Only drafted into the side after Edwin Twesigomwe turned up late, Bonner, who turned 23 on Tuesday, barely gave a kick to Harry Hunt, who has scored 25 times this season and been the subject of several approaches from rival teams this season.
