The Hornets are in discussions with Hertsmere Borough Council about redeveloping the club’s training ground facilities – which would include a medical centre and rehabilitation pool.

New changing rooms, offices and a gym would also be built as part of the work at their London Colney training complex, which is owned by University College London and leased on a long-term basis by the club.

Watford have already started work on two new ‘stadium-quality’ pitches on the site.

The pitches will cost around £500,000 and should be completed in time for pre-season.

The Golden Boys have used neighbouring Arsenal’s facilities in the past when poor weather has affected the surface at their training ground.

So the club decided to install two training pitches which will have improved drainage and will, it is hoped, mirror the quality of the surface at Vicarage Road.

The work will involve new drainage systems being installed before gravel, sand and then turf are laid.

It should reduce the impact of adverse weather conditions and also make the pitches flatter.

The clubs owners, the Pozzos, want to build the infrastructure around the club in a self-sufficient way whilst chasing promotion to the Premier League.

The new East Stand is progressing and should be ready for the start of the 2014/15 campaign.

It was decided last month the structure would be extended the full length of the pitch, as the previous plans would have seen it finish close to the penalty spot at the Vicarage Road end.

The extension work should start in a few weeks time and will increase the capacity of the stand by a further 800 seats and to more than 3,000 in total.

As for other sections of Vicarage Road, we understand Watford plan to meet with stadium construction company Centerplate shortly to discuss plans.

Centerplate acquired catering company The Lindley Group last year and the two businesses are in charge of all of the food and drink sold by Watford throughout the stadium.

One of the topics which will be discussed is the South-West Corner. Centerplate took over the project management of the development earlier this season but work has not been taking place as the East Stand has been the club’s priority.
