Millwall manager Ian Holloway says his side did not deserve to be 2-1 down when they grabbed an equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time.

Lewis McGugan had put Watford ahead in the first half with a near-post strike before Lions’ substitute Steve Morison equalised after the break with a well-taken half volley as Millwall began to take control.

With only four minutes remaining, Almen Abdi scored his second goal in a week via the aid of a deflection to put Beppe Sannino’s side ahead.

In the fifth of five additional minutes, Holloway’s side grabbed an equaliser when Martyn Woolford’s half-volley beat Manuel Almunia in unconvincing fashion.

The Spaniard had twice kept his side in it in the preceding minutes, brilliantly denying Alan Dunne with an agile stop before getting down quickly to push another Woolford effort around the post.

Speaking afterwards, Holloway said: “Anybody who watched that, we didn’t deserve to go behind 2-1 in that second half. Magnificent credit to the players to put a team like that on the back foot, to create as many chances as we did and without Almunia [we could have won].

“There was two completely out of this world saves, their bench was applauding him. You can see he’s got that Arsenal class in him still. The one from Woolford – I thought it was in – and how ironic, probably the worst shot of the three had bobbled over him. But do I really care?”

Holloway continued: “They’re really chuffed with each other down there and quite rightly so. I thought Watford played well in the first half, they caused us some problems with their movement of the ball, the shape of their team and we didn’t quite get it right, though we did carve out a couple of chances.

“They’ve gone and scored, there was another one I felt they might have scored from, but I knew we had some people on the bench that were ready to come, I knew that that team would be a little bit tired and I knew that we could have a right good go at the second half, providing we keep believing in ourselves and what we’ve ground out over the last couple of weeks."
