Watford defender Reece Brown's loan at Carlisle United has been extended until the end of the season.

Brown joined Watford in the summer on a two-year deal but has been limited to two Capital One Cup starts and one substitute outing in the league. He has been an unused substitute a further three times.

The 22-year-old joined Carlisle on an initial month-long loan and has made five starts and two substitute outings for the League One club.

Carlisle lost 6-1 in their last game against Preston North End but Brown did help the club secure four clean sheets from five matches.

"Reece has been great to have around and he has really knuckled down and worked hard," Kavanagh told Carlisle's website.

"He wants to be involved and he shows by the way he approaches everything he does that he wants to be part of what we are trying to achieve, in terms of getting the points and performances we need.

"He gives us options and we know he's a player who will add to the group. We're delighted that he has stayed with us."

Brown, the younger brother of former England international Wes, came through the academy system at Manchester United but did not make an appearance for the club.

The defender did have loan spells at Ipswich Town, Coventry City, Oldham Athletic, Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City during his time at Old Trafford.
