There were plenty of impressive performances from the young athletes in Watford Harriers’ ranks as the track and field season opened up in St Albans on Sunday.

Under-15 Sprinter Cameron George impressed as he won the ‘A’ string 100m race with a time of 12.9 seconds. He also managed to come in second in the 300m, clocking a personal best of 41.9.

George's impressive outing wasn’t finished as he led the Under-15 4x100m relay team to second place. Accompanying Cameron were Johann Sanseau, Byron Johal and 12-year-old Joshua Namiech-Oyebola - the youngest member of the Under-15 track team.

Both Sanseau and Johal also performed strongly in their preferred distance of 800m with Johann securing first spot in the ‘B’ string race, whilst Johal came in second position in the ‘A’ string.

Although primarily a long distance runner, Sanseau also won a ‘B’ string 200m race in a time of 27.6 as well.

Under-13 William Jarvis dominated in both the javelin and discus, comfortably finishing in first with a significant lead over the rest of the field.

The field events also saw some good performance from Watford Girls, with Hertfordshire county discus record holder Jess Emery winning the Under-15 Girls shot putt but unfortunately came up a little short finishing in second place in both Discus and Javelin throws.

The next Eastern Young Athletes League match is scheduled for May 11th and the Watford Harriers team will travel to Luton.
