Sun Postal Sports can be crowned Spartan South Midlands Division One champions on Saturday after they completed a hat-trick of wins this season over Kings Langley.

A typically clinical strike from James Armstrong against his former club settled a fractious local derby at Gaywood Park on Saturday.

The 1-0 win means Sun now need just seven points from their three games this week to clinch their first piece of senior silverware since 1995.

Sun Postal play Welwyn Garden City tonight, FC Broxbourne Boro on Thursday and Baldock Town on Saturday, and also have second-place Bedford in their final game of the season.

Paul Hobbs' team are three points clear of Bedford, have a game in hand and a superior goal difference.

"We'd be disappointed if we didn't win it now," said Hobbs. "I would have bitten your arm off at the start of the season had you offered me promotion but now I'd be disappointed if we finished second."

Langley bounced back with a 3-1 win at Southall on Monday but they are in third spot, six points below leaders Sun and a point behind Bedford who occupy the second promotion spot having played a game more. Langley's fate looks set to be decided on the final day of the season when they play Bedford in what will be their fourth game in a week.

Langley boss John Paul Hughes will be hoping to have Alex Campana back for the run in. The 28-goal former Watford professional was out of Saturday's game through injury and Langley missed his eye for goal.

They were the more progressive of the two sides on Saturday and fashioned the better chances, the best of which from Nick Jackson was brilliantly saved by Ross Hampton, one of eight former Langley players in the Sun side.

But the away team were more ruthless in both boxes, with Scott Bonner providing a rock at the heart of the defence, Ashley Lewis a powerhouse in midfield and Armstrong always a goal threat.

Shortly after he had an effort from a Dan Tomkins cross ruled out for offside, Armstrong slammed in the rebound after a Lewis header smacked the post just past the hour. It was his 31st league goal of a remarkable season.

"He may rub people up the wrong way and not do as much running as he used to but he showed why he has been the best forward at this level for the last ten years," said Hobbs.

Langley's misery was compounded when sub Luke Ladyman was shown a straight red card for disputing the non-award of a penalty and they had an effort cleared off the line.

Armstrong, 32, will go head-to-head tonight with Welwyn's prolific strike force of Jason Caswell and Joel Norris, who have 66 league goals between them this season, when the two teams meet at Sun Postal's ground tonight.
