West Herts will begin the defence of the Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield at home against the winners of the first round tie between Aldenham and Plate champions Watford Grammar School for Boys.

The draw for the first two rounds of the area’s premier limited overs competition was held a short time ago and other highlights include last year’s Shield runners-up Bushey taking on Watford Town A in the second round.

In keeping with tournament tradition, West Herts and Bushey were among the six eligible quarter-finalists to be seeded through to the second round. Unusually, two B sides – Leverstock Green B and Watford Haidery A – were among them by virtue of their performances last year, while Abbots Langley and Met Police Bushey are also not required to contest the first round.

Owing to the shortfall of eligible clubs from last year, the other seeds were awarded to the two entrants with the highest league status – Radlett and Langleybury A.

It is hoped competition packs will be sent to all participants by tomorrow so clubs can begin the task of arranging their matches.
