Arlon Printers West Herts League

Vicarage Celtic celebrated a league and cup treble as they added the Webster Cup and Sir Stanley Rous Cup to their West Herts Division Two title.

The Celts took on JC United in the Sir Stanley Rous Cup final on Tuesday and recorded a 3-2 victory.

Celtic lead 1-0 at the interval as Trafford Nolan’s low cross was turned into the net by Connor Flanagan.

An eventful second period followed. Nolan lobbed the United goalkeeper to double the Celts’ lead but JC responded with a goal.

Flanagan made it 3-1 with his 53rd strike of the campaign but, despite United scoring a second, Celtic saw out the game and were crowned champions.

It was the Celts’ second cup win after they overcame Oxhey 3-0 in the Webster Cup final last Thursday.

The side went in front in the 31st minute as Jamie Gallagher nipped past a defender and crossed for Nolan, who rose highest and headed past the goalkeeper.

The second period was well contested and neither side gave away chances. However, with ten minutes remaining, Crowley fired in from 25 yards.

Celtic added a third goal in the dying minutes as Flanagan was fouled in the area and he stepped up and coolly dispatched the penalty to seal the cup.

In Division Two action on Saturday, Celtic lost their 100 per cent league record as they drew 1-1 with Croxley Community Reserves, Crowley struck to earn the Celts a point.
