Sixteen-year-old Bronagh O’Keeffe underlined her potential after she reached the quarter-finals of the Hertfordshire Ladies County Championships.

O’Keeffe, who started playing golf at the age of ten, was in good form during the tournament which was held over two days at Harpenden Golf Club.

In the first stage of the competition she was drawn against experienced Bishops Stortford player Jackie Foster, who plays of a three handicap.

However, O’Keeffe, from Harrow Weald, was able to secure victory and admitted she was in a “state of shock” after her win.

Nicola Callender was her opponent in the last eight stage. The Sacred Heart Language College student was unable to upset the odds for a second time and she exited the competition after a defeat.

O’Keeffe is planning to study for her ‘A’ Levels before seeking a golf scholarship at an American university.

Her next competition challenge is the Faldo Series England Championships at Old Fold Manor Golf Club which begins on June 16.

Golfers who compete in the Sir Nick Faldo initiative will have a chance to qualify for the 18th Faldo Series grand final at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, USA, in October.
