Watford target Matej Vydra doesn't want another loan move and says he would like to permanently join a Premier League side

Watford Observer: Picture: Holly Cant Picture: Holly Cant

Matej Vydra does not want another loan move next season and says he would like to permanently join a Premier League club if he leaves Udinese.

The 22-year-old, who Watford are hoping to re-sign this summer, spent the campaign on loan at West Bromwich Albion but scored just three goals during his spell at the Hawthorns.

This season was in stark contrast to Vydra’s year at Vicarage Road. The Czech Republic international netted 22 goals in 47 matches during the 2012/2013 campaign as the Golden Boys twice missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

Watford are hoping to bring Vydra back to the club as they look to challenge for promotion next season, the striker is keen to remain in the Premier League.

"I don't want another loan spell and to be jumping into a new town year in, year out and getting to know new team-mates and other people from the club," Vydra told Czech news agency CTK.

"It takes you months and then it's almost half of the season gone and you have another half to get some match practice. After all, it's better to sign a contract somewhere for four or five years. That's what I have in mind.

"I am an Udinese player but I have spoken to my agent and he says there's interest in me in England and Germany.

"I said I had wanted to play in the Premier League and I have made that reality. Now I'm keen to stay there.

"The Premier League in England is my priority. Now it depends on whether the clubs reach an agreement and if the Udinese president lets me go.”

This saga feels like a relationship to me, where the fans are desperately trying to cling onto someone who just doesn't want to be there

I'm not talking from experience here - my girlfriend is very happy (and lucky) to have me! - but we all seem to have 'one-itis'
In the absence of a viable alternative to Vydra, everyone's pleading with him to change his mind when we should really just start looking at who else is out there.

Shame he wants out, but irrespective of whether that's coming from him or his agent, it is what it is. It was good while it lasted Matty, but life goes on.

Did that all sound a bit too Ian Holloway?

He comes over as naive and over confident. Why would a Premier League Club come in offering a long contract after failing last season at West Brom. He could possibly get a one year loan to a Premier League club but the Pozzo's aren't going to agree to that. He earned a chance at the big time but for whatever reason it didn't work out. Now he needs to take a step back before earning another chance. Coming out with this stuff is ill advised at best.. oh, he's advised by Chovanec.

I understand what you say, but why would the price be right, he signed a long term contract at Udie last summer, after a poor season why would Udie sell him when his value will be at its lowest for some time, unless someone offered a significant sum. No doubting the lad has potential, but he needs to prove that consistently, like Troy has done in the last 2 seasons. Still think his best bet is with the horns, he already knows the town & a good number of the players so settling in should not be a problem, just down to his seeming inflated ego to make that decision.

All this yearning for him to sign is silly as he clearly is not up for a season in the championship, however naïve he appears to be.

Sadly that is that. As much as I admire Matej as a player, clearly he still does not want to play for us or any other Championship club for that matter.

I wish him luck in trying to get a long term contract in the Premier league, but his record at WBA hardly suggests there will be a long queue. He hasn't proved himself at that level. The Pozzos will want a return on their investment so they will not let him go on the cheap, after all part of the West Brom loan deal last time was an extension to his Udinese contract. No longer our problem. Having said that he talks about getting to know his teammates that would not be a problem with us - so the door is not entirely closed, but I would only want him if he committed and fully fit.

Time to look elsewhere for a pacy striker, won't be easy with the financial package we can offer. Any realistic suggestions?

Even so an attacking three of Deeney, Dyer and Anya with a fit Abdi(or McGugan) just behind sounds pretty strong. With Fernando's trickery and Ranegie's height as plans B and C. And we have the young Mensah and Jakubiak for cameos from the bench.

Tozser is key too as defensive midfield. Just need one or two exprienced central defenders - some good ones being released so fingers crossed.

There's no denying he has potential but thought he only played well for a few months last season. After Jan he was very poor and didnt score until the Leicester game. I personally think Leicester / Sunderland / will try signing him and he'll end up another player with heaps of potential that will never fulfill it.

Disagree, one sulking (if true) player does not ruin a side. His goals contributed to us being where we were last term - massively. Yes he was poor for the last third of a season (Leicester apart), but injury, unfamilarity with playing a full season/ rigours of the Championship plus may be a bit of the big I am - although I cannot verify the latter - all played a part., may be.

A more pertinent reason for failure to win promotion was our inability to break some teams down when the opposition defended deep. We did not have an alternative to the exciting 3-5-2 we enjoyed watching. Sometimes you need to grind out results like QPR did under Warnock, Cardiff under Malky and Sean's Burnley and Leicester this term or us under Aidy in 2005/06. We couldn't do that and I don'tthink Zola wanted to sacrifice style for pragmatism.

The other main reasons were the conceding of too many late goals e.g Burnley(h), Millwall (a) etc. We were top scorers, but let in too many goals for a promotion/ play-off winning team. Partly down to key injuries such as Hall, Hoban and Nosworthy but at times we were poor defensively.

And as much as it pains me to say it, Holloway out thought Gianfranco last May with a space denying master class - and with and without Vydra we couldn't counteract that.

Blaming Vydra primarily, I think is a bit OTT.

Just shows how short term these players think. Had he signed up to Watford last season, not only would he know his team mates well, he'll be well settled and possibly playing prem footy. Just what he wants.
Instead, he hasn't progressed at all now in 2 years. stuck at a club that doesn't play him and having to start all over again, in having to prove himself not only to udinesse, but to who ever he plays for next year. What a waste of a good talent.
So So narrow minded these people.

A great post from Soulfulhornet as usual.

As for other posters saying that MV had a poor season at WBA he only started a handful of games and nearly all of his substitute appearances were during the last 10 or 15 minutes, which is hardly giving a player a chance, yet still managed to score 3 goals.
Incidentally i've just tried to find the exact figures on the official WBA site and MV along with the 3 players released this week have been omitted from their 2013/14 stats. A very curious thing to do to last season's players as you can't undo what they did.

I do agree with the majority though, that if his heart is set elsewhere then so be it because he wouldn't bust a gut for us if he came to The Vic.

MainStandShambles

Dwight Gayle would have been perfect 2 games ago until he scored 4 goal for the stripey Nigel's and played his way into their plans for next year.

I would like to see fryatt come on a free from Hull if Deeney leaves. Not quite good enough for prem but scores goals in championship and experienced
Sorry but even before the 4 goals, don't think we could afford the fee for Gayle. How much did he cost Palace £6m or so? I suspect they would want at least £4m for him - a record fee for this club so that ain't gonna happen.

Apart from comp for the lad from Reading, Ikpeazu, Nosworthy is the last player we actually bought for money and I think that was under £100k.

Still, Gayle is the type of player that we should sign if we could find one that is affordable - young, fast can score etc.

Fryatt is a good shout, works his socks off, great energy and knows where the net is, though obviously not young.

Gayle on loan - great but probably won't happen. a loan player from Palace -- Mr Holloway will be choking on his wrigleys. I suspect Pulis will want to kepp a pacy player who can come off the bench and make things happen. If I was in his shoes, no way would Gayle be out on loan.

Dont agree with those knocking Vydra, why is it arrogant wanting to play in one of the best leagues in the world? And his comments on not wanting to move from club to club every season on loan are fair enough. That isnt a slight against WFC

The issue however is on last seasons showing his value isnt going to be what it was a year earlier so it depends wether Udinese want to sell him for what they can now or hope he has a good season somewhere and then sell him when his value goes up again.

If the Pozzo's dont choose to cash in now then WFC is as good a place for him to go as any and I dont think he's the type of kid that wouldnt put in 100% even if he'd rather be playing in a higher league.

He's got no chance of an EPL club paying what the Pozzos will want for him, he's stilll got 4 years of a 5 year contract he signed last July to run and after 3/4 goals last season I can't see his value being much higher then £3/4 million. I think we all know the Pozzos won't sell someone who was worth nearer £10 million last season for such a small value. Time to suck the bottom lip in and get ya head down at The Vic Matty!!

For a talented footballer this boy has a lot to learn, he is a mere lightweight short of common sense and living in another world.

Does he think that this season has been anything other than detrimental to his career and/or valuation.

The Pozzos listened to him and his agent as a result he scored three goals and played little football. he played as a striker for West Brom who sold Shane Long and tumbled down the league just avoiding relegation and he still failed to impress enough to get a place in the starting line up on a regular basis. Now which premier teams want him other than as a bench warmer? last year he went out on loan this year I suppose he thinks Bayern will offer him a few million euros a year!

Perhaps the Pozzos now they need to tell him what is best for him and them.

The guy was blessed with talent, not as much as Adam J, but enough. if he has his way his talents will flatter to deceive and he will never ever realise his true potential.

Good synopsis. He wants the get rich quick route not realising that that will just run into the sand dunes. Coming to Watford for a year (or another Championship club - but, of course, I'm biased) will make provide for sustainable improvement instead of "hear today, gone tomorrow".

Sorry Mr Vydra, you had your chance last season and you've now blown it! Had you of stayed with Watford you could have commanded a list of clubs to choose from. You also had the perfect striker in T Deeney. The only way I see you playing in the Prem regularly is to drop back into the Championship and work your socks off to make yourself a name that's wanted! It's a tough life, you wanted Prem and you got 3 or 4 games, I hope you enjoyed them.

Can't see it happening Martej, a big club would not be interested as you did not show anything when given the chance with WBA, and the Pozzo's will want a serious ROI so won't want to sell on the cheap.

I would suggest you take a step back, come to Watford, get your head down and net 25 + goals this season. You might then just find you have your Premier League dream with a bit if fun along the way, and better still you'll be the established striker at the club come the big arrival in the big time rather than a bench warmer.

If the Pozzo's do sell to a lesser top flight team whilst his value is low then you can be assured that they had not come to the decision lightly and they detect that the lad has a bad attitude and likely to go on sulky street, which does not bode well for the lads future.

Either way, the orns will go marching on with or without you.

Wouldn't be surprised. It's close to where his family lives too.

I agree with others that his spell at WBA wasn't a complete disaster.
Yes he didn't get much game time under Steve Clarke, but Pepe Mel seemed to fancy him more and I thought he looked quite good whenever I saw him...albeit the odd live game on the box and on the MOTD highlights.

He is a bit misguided maybe but I don't believe in rubbishing the lad.

I must admit i haven't heard this rumour anywhere and i hope it'not true.

As for his family, Troy is a Brummie and i think his family live on the eastern side of Birmingham making Vicarage Road 100 miles (1hr 45mins) and Turf Moor 118 miles (2hrs 20mins).

Blimey, I must be clutching at straws already.

Another season at watford would of given you a good start rather than becoming a premiership fail
