Watford Harriers’ young female athletes put in a strong performance at the second match of the regional Eastern Young Athletes League in Luton.

County discus record holder Jessica Emery (Under-15) took first place in the A event with a throw of 22.93m while Molly Jarvis was first in the B competition after achieving a distance of 17.52m.

Maddie Lythgoe secured second in the A Hammer. She threw 19.69m and then reached 6.26m in the B shot put to finish second.

Results on the track were mixed but Grace Ingles came second in the 1,500m.

The next EYAL match is scheduled for June 15 at Hemel Hempstead.

Elsewhere, Ciaran Weldon clocked 21.31 to finish tenth at the Langley Park 5k while Greg Neal (25.29) was 32nd and Ray Hoyle (40.22) was 69th.

At the St Albans 5k parkrun, Paul Illing was 55th after he crossed the line in 21.20.
