Anthony Joshua is set to face veteran Matt Skelton in his next fight after the Watford boxer knocked out his latest opponent in 83 seconds at Wembley Stadium.

Joshua was odds-on to secure a first-round knock-out over Milton Keynes' Matt Legg (7-3) on Saturday night and the Olympic gold medallist duly delivered with a right uppercut.

The 24-year-old, who grew up on the Meriden Estate, has yet to be taken to the third round during his six fights as a professional.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Saturday evening, Joshua said: "It was brilliant; look at this. Everyone has come out to have a good time and I wanted to enjoy it as well.

"He came out swinging straight away and I knew it was a small ring and he couldn't outwork me on the straight shots so I just thought cover up, take a few and give a few and just enjoy it. He could only do that for three rounds maximum so I knew if I didn't get tagged too many times then I would eventually break him down. It was a six-round fight so I knew I had enough time to work on a few things."

Joshua's next fight will be on July 12 at Matchroom's show in Liverpool and promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he is set to fight the 47-year-old Skelton.

Skelton (28-8) is a former European champion and world title challenger but has lost both of his last two fights. He was knocked out by David Price in round two of their Commonwealth and British title fight in November 2012 and he suffered a unanimous decision loss to John McDermott in a clash for the British belt in March last year.

Joshua said: "Potentially I feel as if I could step up but experience wise I haven't gone past two rounds as a pro yet. Experience is what I need and I am coming off the back of a slight [hand] injury.

"I am back in the mix, I am rolling again and I'm back out July 12 and maybe my opponent will come out swinging again for a few more rounds. But I really believe that in a six-round fight, you get found out in the later rounds so hopefully the knock-outs keep coming."

Hearn added: "We are looking to fight Matt Skelton on July 12 in Liverpool. It will be a good step up for him.

"Anthony only had a couple of weeks of sparring for this training camp [due to the hand injury] so it was a good experience for him and I think in a few years time he will be headlining shows here [at Wembley] himself."
