  • "I struggle to see how 8 plus 1 (GT) makes sense. Would be easier to do 11 plus 3 (GT, EJ and possibly Pozzo if we are being generous).
    My 11 would have to include McClelland, Coton, Gibbs, Blissett, Barnes, Mooney and HH. IF Deeney was to stay, and lead us up, I think he would deserve to be there too. Doyley perhaps also an inclusion just for being, well, Doyley and kind of a dying breed... The one club man. I have no problem with Tommy Smith being there... Wasn't he player of the season twice?! My heart also says Jackett.

    However, the biggest prob with opening this debate is the average age of the voters... I'm not exactly young, but feel I can only choose those I've seen PLAY. perhaps there should be two banners... One for the modern era, say from 77 onwards, and one from before. Might even arouse some interest from the younger fans as to who these old players (Welbourne, Scullion etc) actually are, and what they did. Maybe that banner could also feature Furphy and McGarry?"

Watford fans are being asked to vote on which Hornets greats should be included in a legends banner which will be displayed at Vicarage Road.

Supporters group The 1881 are creating a 25m by 15m banner which will display Graham Taylor and eight of the club's greatest players.

The poll will include a shortlist of 49 players and is expected to be on the group's website by 9am tomorrow morning.

The voting is scheduled to take place until early July and the banner should be ready in August or September.

The group are also encouraging fans to join them at the Watford Ladies versus Millwall Lionesses game at Berkhamsted Town on Sunday, July 6.
