Davidstow National Village Cup

Langleybury suffered defeat in the competition as they were beaten by five wickets at Reed on Sunday.

Bury lost the toss and were asked to bat by their opponents. It looked the wrong choice as the visitors raced to 50 without loss inside nine overs.

Reed opening bowler Jack Tide, had other ideas and proceeded to remove both Langleybury openers Nahim Amin and Ross Channer in the next two overs.

A smart stumping by Shaun Tidey off Tom Greaves saw Gus Ball removed with the score on 69.

At 78 for four, Richard Soulsby (47) was joined by Josh Godden (36 not out) and they put on 54 before Soulsby was caught going for a third boundary in an over.

This brought in Richard Oxley (24 not out) and the pair took the score to 177 after 40 overs. On a good batting surface, the total was probably 50 runs short.

Langleybury made an early breakthrough with the ball when Billy Gage had Sean Tidey caught behind by Soulsby in the first over.

Godden then removed Tom Greaves and Chris Jackson and Langleybury were right back in the match with Reed 50 for three off nine overs.

However, Stuart Smith then joined William Heslam and the pair set about constructing a solid Reed recovery.

The pair put on 99 before Andrew Cheeseman removed both William Heslam for 66 and Stuart Smith for 46 in the space of two overs.

It was too little, too late and Reed reached their target in the 35th over with five wickets to spare.

Reed will now entertain Sibton Park, the winners of the Kent Group, in the first of the national knock-out stages.

Chess Valley League Division Four

There was a winning start to the season for Chorleywood as they recorded an impressive 128-run win against Kings Langley on Sunday.

Batting first, Wood piled on the runs to finish on 258 for nine from their 45 overs.

Opener Freddie Dare was in fine form as he hit a boundary-filled 95 – his highest score for the club for more than five seasons. Callum Neal (44) and Ben Brooks (43) joined in the onslaught to put the visitors in command.

Wood then bowled Kings Langley out for just 130 in 33 overs.

Matt Hodson followed up hitting his maiden half-century for the club the previous week by picking up his first five-wicket haul as he finished with figures of five for 30 from his eight overs.

There were also two wickets apiece for Dominic Grant (two for 22) and Nigel Tyler (two for 27) as Wood cantered to victory.

Division Seven

Hemel Hempstead Seconds got their campaign off to a winning start as they overcame Finchley Seconds by three wickets.

Batting first, Finchley produced an impressive performance and posted a strong total of 202 all out.

Anjam Khan was the pick of the Hemel bowlers and he ended with figures of four for 36.

Scott Radcliffe also impressed as he claimed two for 17. Rory Fraser (two for 34) and Billy May (two for 32) also took wickets.

The Hemel reply stuttered early on as Khan departed for a duck but Josh Graves entered and steadied the innings with a knock of 59.

Radcliffe struck 39, Tom Waterton added 33 and May ended on 29 not out as Hemel chased down their target impressively.

North London Women's League

Hemel Hempstead were beaten by 28 runs by third-in-the-table Radlett.

Hemel won the toss and they decided to field. Their opponents took advantage of that decision and went on to post a score 145 for seven, a total that was boosted in the final ten overs as the batting order pushed on.

The Hemel reply was steady but lacked the conviction required to seal victory. They eventually ended 28 runs short of what they needed for the win.
