Helen Freeman has been included in the Great Britain women’s wheelchair basketball team for the 2014 World Championships in Toronto.

The Watford-born 24-year-old is selected as part of Great Britain’s 11-strong squad for the World Championships, which begins on June 20 in Canada.

Freeman said: “It’s great to be selected.

“It really is a new start for the GB women with our new coaching staff and it is an honour to be a part of the process. We know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us but that is something we are all committed to.

“We began centralising in Worcester in the beginning of May which should give us a lot of time together to improve our team play.

“Training together multiple times a day can only make us better and any edge we can have going into a tournament with some phenomenal teams playing in it is vital.

“At the Championships we are hoping to get to the semi final: anything can happen when you get to that game and we showed at the Tri Nations Cup against Germany and Japan in April, we are capable of playing with the best teams in the world.”

Freeman, who took part in the London 2012 Olympic Games with Team GB, will be one of the more experienced members of an otherwise youthful group.
