West Herts Hockey Club’s mixed side won the England Hockey Trophy with back-to-back wins in Sheffield last weekend.
After finishing as runners-up in the previous two years’ finals, West Herts scored 44 goals and conceded just eight in seven rounds of competition.
The weekend began with a semi-final against tournament hosts Sheffield Hallam and a nervy first-half ended with West Herts 2-1 behind.
However West Herts ran in nine goals to turn the match around and run out 10-3 victors. Daniel Webster finished with five goals to his name, with brother Max (2), Iain Gordon, Steve George and Símon Walker all getting on the scoresheet.
Sunday’s final was an all-East region affair after Bedford overcame reigning champions Cannock 4-2 in the second semi-final.
Max Webster netted twice early on and Jason Mallory added a third from a well-worked short corner routine to give Herts a solid base.
A temporary suspension for Dan Webster didn’t faze Herts and when Iain Gordon won a short corner, Steve George was on hand to tap in the fourth.
M Webster completed his hat-trick in the second period before Bedford managed a consolation goal.
Webster returned to score before the end and M Webster added West Herts’ seventh from the penalty spot to round off the scoring.
