Watford boss Beppe Sannino: 'Physical shape and recovery times are going to be very important'

Beppe Sannino has said the Watford players' physical condition and recovery times will be crucial this season after the players returned to pre-season training today.

The Hornets squad returned from their summer break yesterday and travelled to Italy for a three-week training camp.

Watford had a session this morning at the training ground of Udinese, another club owned by the Pozzo family.

The Golden Boys squad then went to Udinese's Friuli Stadium for medical and physical testing.

"We would like to thank Udinese for their hospitality," Sannino told the Italian club's website.

"We are happy to be training in the facilities of a first-level club in the Italian championship.

"A very long season is ahead of us and we want to give some satisfaction to those who have believed in us so far.

"Physical shape and recovery times are going to be very important this year, that is why we think this first phase of preparation is so fundamental in order to obtain good achievements in the future."

Now send them to Granada so they can train there as well....I'm fed up of half fit crocks trying to get fit in a league where a win can shoot you up the table & a loss makes you drop like a stone!

Stating the obvious, but then again it was the same in 2012/13 under GFZ. We have let in so many late goals - usually bad ones (I exclude Drinkwater's for Leicester - brilliant strike), but it was a problem for at least the last 2 seasons.

If improved fitness helps reduce conceding as above then great! I think we would have gone up automatically in12/13 if the games ended after 80 min and probably would have been in or close to play-offs last term.

This sounds like a good start to pre-season. Zola always used to say that it takes a few games for players to get match fitness. I don't believe that's the case. They should be ready and raring to go from day 1. Lets hope we get a good start to the season and that'll help us kick on for the rest of the season.

I know but their loans do not expire until 30th. In any event are we not trying to sign Toszer?

Really like our guy Sannino, fitness will be key to a good season....its what Taylor demanded of his team back then...being super fit is like a 12th man on the pitch.

Absolutely right. We are in a super competitive league. Plenty of training and games to get Horns battle-hardened. Hoping Sannino can get the boys ready. A couple of additions and we go again. COYHs!

physical condition yes get them supper fit beppe
recovery times!! hope you don't rotate so much this season the old adage NEVER CHANGE A WINING TEAM worked well for the likes of burnley, leicseter derby, these teams were all capable of being able to put a run of wins 8 - 10 on the trot something most top championship do, these teams tend not to change a wining line up to much so, beppe will be judged by the results+performances a tough division as always a good start needed I think,( target-20points minimum from the first 10 games or it might be good bye beppe) get that defence organised beppe &good luck COYH

They reluctantly cough up "expenses" to send some down to the Vic, but to Italy.....you must be joking!

They will copy and paste the transfer news when they see it on some internet website!
