OAKWORTH schoolchildren had paws for thought when they were asked to help retired sheepdogs.
They did a sponsored walk to raise money for an Eldwick charity that finds new homes for border collies.
Pupils of Oakworth Primary School to call on their own dogs on the walk in aid of the Freedom of Spirit Trust for Border Collies.
Representatives from the trust went along to the school this month (June) to collect the £403 proceeds.
The trust, based on a farm on Baildon Moor, takes on former farm dogs and other dogs from pounds.
A spokesman said: “We’ve got about 40 dogs in at the moment. We rehouse about 100 a year. We are the only specialists in the region.”
“The Oakworth children raised awareness of th e plight of these wonderful dogs, which are so much a part of the history of Yorkshire.”
The trust was set up to help promote a better understanding of border collies and their needs.
It aims to give sanctuary to needy, old or infirm dogs, or those in need of rehabilitation or a healing time.
