Dozens of dignitaries of expected to take part in one of London's biggest military parades on Saturday.

The Armed Forces Day parade for north east London will begin at 11:30am from Chingford Cemetery and end at the Memorial Park in Chingford Mount Road.

Organised on behalf of the Royal British Legion (RBL), the annual parade led by the Epping Forest Pipe Band and the 282 ATC Band will also be joined by army and police cadets, MP Iain Duncan Smith, Mayor Terry Wheeler and borough commanders of Waltham Forest and Redbridge police.

Over 200 people including Chelsea Pensioners, veterans, squadron leaders and senior army officer Lieutenant Colonel Brian Fahy will all be in attendance on the day.

Following the parade, a family fun-day has been organised inside the park with tug-of-war contests, a field gun display, fitness exercises by ex-military officers and performances by bands.

Fundraiser and organiser of the event Sharon Bonner has said it's looking to be the "biggest parade ever" and said there will be plenty to see and do on the day including a display of military vehicles to explore.

She added: "It will be a lovely day for everyone to come out and pay their respects to our armed forces.

"We don't realise how much they sacrifice on a daily basis from being away to home and losing their lives, and they all do things we wouldn't even dream of doing."

A lowering of the flag will take place in the park at 4:30pm and then the day will be rounded off with a concert at the Chingford Assembly Hall from 7:30pm.

Tickets for the concert and meal are £15 and are available by contacting 020 8524 8373.
