Watford have considered a move for Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks but we understand no contract offer has been made.

The Blackpool Gazette reported the Hornets and two League One clubs are interested in signing the 32-year-old, who won several individual awards for the 2013/14 campaign.

But we have been told no offer has been made to the out-of-contract Scotland international and he is one of several players they are interested in.

The Golden Boys are keen to sign another home-grown goalkeeper, with former Spurs man Heurelho Gomes and Jonathan Bond already at the club.

Last season's third choice, Gary Woods, is out of contract next week and whilst they haven't ruled out re-signing the former Manchester United goalkeeper, it appears unlikely.

Dagenham & Redbridge goalkeeper Chris Lewington is currently on trial with Watford. Read more here.

Would be a quality signing. Obviously got Woods as a back-up (assuming Bond goes out on loan) if it doesn't happen, but if we had the option of Gilks and Gomes as potential starting keepers, that would be fantastic.

If Gilks come in, I would imagine Bond will be off. Permanently.

That would be a great shame. By the time he's 23/24, he'll be a top-class keeper. He needs game time, decent goalkeeper coaching AND A BIT OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM THE FANS !!!

None of which he's likely to get at Watford...he either needs a season-long loan as a guaranteed starter, with an eye on claiming the first-choice spot here, or to leave for the sake of his own career. I don't think he's quite as good as we'd like him to be, basically.

Doubt that will happen unless a silly offer come in, but he could go out on loan for a season or so, akin to what Man U did with Foster and us.

Could not agree more Bond will be a top class keeper. If we are signing Gilks, then I do think they will loan Bond out. But he is on a three year deal and one to keep for the future. A year in League one will do him a world of good. But don't sell him!!!!!!!!

Gilks is still a "number one" keeper at lower Championship level, and will not come to the Vic to be number 2 or 3 to Gomes and Bond.

Would be great if he did. Remember his penalty save from Deeney last year which wrecked our good start to the season?

A good penalty saver, and also a good all round keeper at this level.

You are absolutely spot on. With confidence and encouragement behind him he will be a fantastic fantastic keeper. Our fans are so quick to judge and belittle our talents. It's sad really.
