Hertfordshire had to settle for a draw from their Unicorns Championship three-day clash against Norfolk.

Herts made two changes to their batting line-up with Steve Gale playing his first County game since 2010 and 18-year-old Reece Hussain making his debut.

Hussain, the nephew of former England captain Nasser Hussain, has come through the Hertfordshire age-group system.

Norfolk won the toss and chose to bat. However, the bowling of Ben Frazer, who was playing his final Herts three-day game, Will Jones and Nick Lamb rattled their opponents.

Lamb ended with three for 50 and Frazer claimed four for 43 as Norfolk’s first innings was ended on 197.

Herts’ reply got off to a good start with Eddie Ballard scoring 65 and Hussain impressing as he played his way to 59 before being dismissed.

Nesan Jeyaratnam (26), Frazer (43), George Scott (26) and Alex Spencer (27) made further contributions as Herts ended on 274 for eight at the end of their 90 overs.

Derbyshire and Durham batsman Gary Park made 109 during Norfolk’s second innings, which was ended on 292. Jones took three wickets while Jamie Southgate and Frazer ended with two apiece.

Chasing 216 to win, Frazer moved up to open with Ballard as Herts decided to set an aggressive tone for the chase. Ballard fell early but Scott and Frazer played beautifully.

Frazer was in dominant form, his unbeaten 81 came off 79 balls and included ten fours and one six. Scott was moving through the gears and had reached 43 off 75 balls with six fours when the rain came and the match was halted with Herts on 124 for one.
