Olympic long jumper and former Strictly Come Dancing competitor, Jade Johnson, helped present the St Michael’s Catholic High School Sports Awards.

The former European and Commonwealth silver medallist handed out the trophies and answered questions from students.

Keanan Bennetts was named sportsman of the year, the Under-15 German international footballer and Tottenham Hotspur academy player becoming the youngest ever recipient of the trophy.

Kim Osuji was named sportswoman of the year, recognising her accomplishments in athletics and dance for the year.

The team of the year award went to the Under-14 girls athletics team, who recently won the Herts Schools Team County Championships at Jarman Park – only the second time a St Michael’s side has claimed victory in the competition since 1988.

Oyebola Oke won the throwing award for his efforts in the discus. Oyebola will compete in the English Schools Athletics Championships this weekend and won the Herts County Championships earlier in the season.

Reflecting on the evening, head of PE, Darren Larner, said: “The evening was a resounding success, wonderfully supported by students and parents and Jade Johnson proving to be a true inspiration and role model for the young athletes present.”
