Herts Cricket League

Division Six

Abbots Langley Seconds moved up to seventh place in the league, thanks to a 49-run win over near-neighbours Boxmoor.

Electing to bat first, Abbots got off to a solid start, with Mark Bishop and Michael Burgess dominating proceedings. Burgess was removed after scoring 19 but Bishop was joined by Will Graves in a partnership of 49.

The hosts proceeded to lose wickets regularly until Graves (56 not out) was joined by Sam Bailey (44), taking Abbots to 212 all out.

Boxmoor were under pressure from the start, with Aiden Byrne (five for 37) and Lewis Hodgins (four for 31) reducing their opponents to 108 for eight.

After a brief recovery from the visitors, Abbots cruised to a comfortable victory.

Kings Langley Seconds batted out a draw at Northwood Seconds.

R.Latchman (88 not out) led the way for the hosts, who also saw Vijaykumar Yadav (80) score well en route to 227 for six. Tom Clark was the most successful Kings bowler, taking four for 74.

In reply, Kings started well through Tim Piper (64), before useful knocks from Andrew Colhoquoun (53 not out) and Sifan Naeeem (36) saw the visitors close on 188 for six.

Division Eight

A player shortage saw Hemel Hempstead Fourths crash to a nine-wicket loss at Harpenden Fourths.

The visitors saw their first three batsmen dismissed for ducks by David Fraser (three for 21) and were removed for just 95 as a result.

It took the loss of just one wicket for the hosts to breeze to victory, Michael Voight (47) the unlucky batsmen.

Andrew Elledge (34 not out) and Samuel Jones (10 not out) subsequently hit the winning runs for Harpenden.

Langleybury Thirds suffered their third defeat of the season, losing by 90 runs against league-leaders Broxbourne Thirds.

Invited to bat first, Broxbourne were scoring steadily before the introduction of Kevin Kelly, who took a season’s best of five for 56 to remove them for 188.

Any Bury thoughts of victory were quickly extinguished, with the hosts dismissed for 98.

Josh Spinks hit two sixes in his knock of 19 but the home side were well beaten.

Division Nine

Kings Langley Thirds recorded their third consecutive win, beating London Colney Seconds by five wickets to maintain the pressure on the top two.

Colney won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 191 for seven, with Scott Rolfe taking three wickets for Kings.

The visitors took just 38 overs to overhaul their opponents’ score, with Logan Turner (56) and Russell Knights (28) providing important contributions.

Abbots Langley Thirds fought out a high-scoring draw against Cockfosters Thirds.

Batting first, Abbots lost a couple of early wickets before Gary Hyams (26) and Richard Merritt put on 80 for the next wicket.

The hosts then suffered a middle-order batting collapse to leave them tottering at 141 for eight.

However Merritt, who went on the score a fine 92, was joined by Lee Rossiter, who smashed a quickfire 54 not out to take Abbots to 225 for eight.

Cockfosters struggled against the Abbots attack, with Anish Kiroya (three for 49) the pick of the bowlers as the hosts held out for a draw on 185 for eight.
