There were two third-place finishes for West Herts Hockey Club at their invitational junior hockey tournament for teams from across the south east.

More than 120 boys and girls took part in Sunday’s event, with clubs travelling from as far afield as Guildford, Slough, Woodford and Oxford.

There was a five team round-robin format for the Under-16 boys and an eight-team group stage and play-off competition for the Under-14 mixed teams.

Oxford and Guildford proved to be the sides to beat for the Under-16 Stags.

In their match against Oxford, West Herts failed to hold onto a 3-1 lead and were eventually beaten 4-3 in what proved to be a decisive game in the tournament, with Oxford and Guildford both going on to win their remaining ties.

West Herts finished third ahead of Crostyx and Slough while Guildford went on to lift the trophy on goal difference.

The standard was more competitive in the Under-14 mixed tournament.

West Herts A managed to clinch third spot with Guildford again winning the trophy after a thrilling final against Amersham A.

The Plate competition, for teams eliminated at the group stages, was won by West Herts B.
