Beppe Sannino has praised Troy Deeney’s behaviour amid constant speculation surrounding his future.

Deeney has been the subject of several bids this summer from Leicester City, Burnley, Swansea City, another Championship club and also a Premier League side.

The Hornets have rejected all offers so far and Sannino has been delighted with the 26-year-old’s demeanour around the club’s London Colney training base.

When asked on Tuesday about Deeney’s behaviour during the speculation, Sannino replied: “Troy is a big professional, as a man and as a player. Troy is my captain. In the future, I don’t know but at the moment, Troy has been the best as a man and as a player.”

Sannino would like Deeney to remain at Vicarage Road but also acknowledged the striker will have aspirations to play in the Premier League.

The Golden Boys’ head coach said: “All managers and coaches would like to have a player like Troy Deeney.

“For Troy, and for all players, they want to improve and aspire but at the moment I am very happy that Troy is still here.”

Sannino does not conduct the club’s transfer activity directly; that is the responsibility of technical director Gian Luca Nani, chief executive Scott Duxbury and owner Gino Pozzo.

But Sannino stressed: “I know everything that is going on because the club talk to me and I know exactly what the club will do.

“As I sit here, Troy Deeney is my player. In the future, the club will tell me what Troy will do.”
