Watford athlete Kyle Langford will be racing for a place in the final of the 800m at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Oregon after safely making it through the heats.
With the top three automatically qualifying for the semi-finals, Langford finished second in his heat in a time of 1.49.73.
The 18-year-old, who lives in Garston, secured his place at the championships by winning the England Athletics Under-20 and Under-23 Championships last month.
The Shaftesbury Barnet Harrier will go into the semi-finals ranked eighth of the qualifiers, with Kenyan Joshua Timpati Masikonde the quickest of those to go through in a time of 1.47.84.
The semi-finals are scheduled to take place at 12.25am on Sunday, UK time.
