Watford continued the build-up to their first season in the top flight with a friendly game against Norwegian second division side Kongsvinger.
Young winger David Johnson caught the eye, scoring a hat-trick as the Hornets galloped into the lead. With the visitors 6-0 to the good at the break, Kongsvinger's record 10-0 defeat looked under threat but the Hornets stopped at nine.
Another record that would need to wait was Luther Blissett's failure to net a hat-trick, another brace having been recorded there.
