Watford undertook their first trip to Carlisle for 19 years and returned with all three points after two second-half goals.
Peter Kennedy got on the end of Gifton Noel-Williams' cross to head home his first competitive goal for the Hornets and Ronny Rosenthal, on his league debut for the club, rolled a free kick back for Richard Johnson to strike an extraordinary clincher from 35 yards.
The two sides were to depart the third tier in opposite directions at the end of the campaign.
