A friendly international between Iceland and Italy attracted a record crowd of in excess of 20,000 in Reykjavik.
Iceland's surprise 2-0 win constituted an inauspicious debut for new Italian boss Marcello Lippi, whose side were to win the World Cup less than two years later.
Iceland fielded Heidar Helguson and Brynjar Gunnarsson, the first time that a non-British side had named two Watford players for a full international.
