West Herts will host Barbadian side Empire Cricket Club on Thursday, August 14.
Empire CC were formed on May 24 1914, Empire Day in Barbados – the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations.
The club was founded by the disaffected members of Spartan Cricket Club, who left Spartan after Barbadian cricketer Herman Griffith was denied membership to the club a year earlier on the grounds of his social class.
One of the most famous cricket clubs in Barbados, the likes of Sir Conrad Hunte, Sir Everton Weekes and Sir Frank Worrell are among those to have played for the side.
The home team will be comprised of players from the clubs who make up the Watford and Three Rivers Cricket Development Group – West Herts, Watford Town, Chorleywood, Bushey, Abbots Langley, Langleybury, Rickmansworth and Chipperfield Clarendon.
