Hornets head coach Beppe Sannino says he has clear ideas when it comes to his starting XI for Watford’s Championship opener with Bolton Wanderers but concedes he has one or two doubts.

With the Hornets’ first team’s pre-season campaign now over, the focus switches to this Saturday's clash at Vicarage Road.

Sannino said prior to the draw with Udinese that the friendly would provide clues as to his starting XI on the opening day of the league campaign.

And after Saturday's warm-up game, the Italian was asked if he knew his starting XI against Bolton. He replied: “I have some solutions but some doubts.

“For next Saturday I know the majority of the players that will stay on the pitch. I may have one or two doubts about the starting XI but I have clear ideas.”

One area that Sannino is pleased with is in attack - even if Troy Deeney leaves Vicarage Road this summer.

He said: “We have five strikers and they are all very good. All five are very important and every striker has good qualities.

“I am happy for Troy if he could reach his dream but we are happy also because I have Matej Vydra, Mathias Ranegie, Fernando Forestieri, Diego Fabbrini and Odion Ighalo. That is great for the fans of Watford.”

Several Premier League sides have made bids or enquires for Deeney throughout the summer but Watford have rebuffed all offers.

He started only his second match since the Hornets returned from the pre-season training camp on Saturday but Sannino was tight-lipped on whether that meant the 26-year-old would remain at Vicarage Road.

“I don’t know the market in England,” Sannino said. “One day Troy is leaving the next day Troy is staying. This (whether Deeney will stay) is something you’ll have to ask the club.”
