Former Hornet Ross Jenkins has been on trial at Southend United but will not be offered a contract by Shrimpers boss Phil Brown.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been without a club since being released by Watford at the end of last season.

Jenkins struggled with injuries during his last two years at Vicarage Road. He failed to make a single appearance in the previous campaign and had an unsuccessful trial at Leyton Orient.

A pelvis injury meant he was unable to go out on loan last season. His last competitive game came for Barnet against AFC Wimbledon on April 1, 2013.

Prior to his departure, Jenkins made 78 starts and 17 substitute appearances for Watford.
