Parma have confirmed Italian midfielder Gianni Munari has joined Watford on loan.

The 31-year-old has joined on a season-long loan subject to international clearance.

The midfielder has spent his entire playing career in Italy. He rose through the academy ranks at Sassuolo and made his debut for the club in 2001.

He spent two seasons with I Neroverdi before departing for Giulianova in 2003 in a co-ownership deal with Chievo.

He spent one year at Giulianova, switched to Chievo and was loaned to Triestina for the 2004/2005 campaign.

He impressed at the Trieste-based club, who signed Munari permanently only to then sell him to fellow Serie B side Verona in 2005.

After a single season with Gialloblu, he moved to Serie A club Palermo.

However, he failed to make a single first-team appearance and was moved on to Lecce in 2007 as part of another co-ownership deal.

He spent four years at Lecce and cemented himself in the side. When his co-ownership deal ended, Palermo purchased the midfielder and sold him onto Fiorentina for a reported €800,000 fee.

But he made only 11 appearances for the Viola before joining Sampdoria at the end of the campaign.

After only a sole season with Samp, he switched to Parma last summer and played 11 times for the club.

Watford will be Munari’s 11th professional side but his first outside of his native country.

He will wear the squad number three.

Why another buy for already a strong midfield.

On a different thread, Linaker is one of many that has again come out about corrupt FIFA. We got rid of a rotten egg but at the highest level it is a scandal that FIFA remain a law unto themselves and no government can attack Blatter and all the other allegedly corrupt FIFA chancers.

How on earth are we going to keep these players happy?

Some of the players who will be on the bench could command a starting place in some bottom half Premier league teams.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy to see that we have cover in a way that we did not last season (we missed Abdi hugely) but with Andrews, Toszer, Abdi, McGugan, Murray, Battochio and now Munari competing for at the most three CM spots it's going to be a challenge!

We will still get a new left-back and another keeper.

Seems ridiculous to have so many players, but you assume they've all been told what the score was - we will have a big squad so get used to rotation. Really going for promotion it feels.

However, it would not surprise me if someone like Murray was sold on. Yes, he qualifiies as homegrown, but ive never seen the body language between him and Sannino as particularly good (last game of last season as an example). Always lots of sniffs that he is going to leave and he just never looks that happy. Hope im wrong, but my gut tells me he will be off.

I expect we'll start seeing a few departures between now and the deadline, some loaned out a few sold. And probably the younger English players as well. TD is doubtless off at some point, but I expect a few to follow him and, like Hogg last season, there maybe a move we won't seen coming.

Still, should ensure no pointless short -term loans during the season like Mceachran.

This is the third summer of major staff changes, despite comments from the club around Easter that they were looking to settle the squad and make only a few changes! Last year's squad did need re-shaping but all this change will hardly support a sustained shot at the automatic places. A play off place possibly.

Welcome to WFC. Never heard of the bloke or seen him play but I trust the Pozzo's judgement and am sure he'll do well, presumably as back up though. About the left back slot- I imagine that we will play 3-5-2 and if we do play 4-3-3 then Doherty can cover and I'm pretty sure that Battocchio and others can fill in there, like he did against Bristol Rovers earlier last season

I count 8 central midfielders, 6 centre halves, 6 forwards. Great to have a big squad but we MUST have a settled team to win promotion. So, if, hopefully when Sannino finds the strongest 11, there's gonna be quite a few unhappy souls looking for a loan away. I just really hope we're not going to see constant changes for the sake of giving players game time. Regardless of the quantity, Sannino must develop quality from this squad.
At least all the non playing squad members will help fill the new stand!

Welcome to Watford FC Munari. You have to say this central midfield is looking pretty wicked if you ask me. Abdi, Mcgugan, Andrews, Battocchio, Murray, Tozser, Murani. Very promising. ye great, seven central midfielders to choose from,
do I see rotation being the stable diet for this year?
there are going to be a lot of disgruntled players hanging around,
possibly similar to the end of last season.

No complaints on this signing. By all accounts he can play LB or DM and so not only perfect injury cover for Pudil and Tozser, but also able to slot into 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 if either one is having a mare of a game. He's so adaptable I suspect he'll be one of the first names on the bench.

Of course we need him , our midfield last season was nonexistent , the absence of Abdi was a factor but the likes of Murray, Battocchio and especially McGugan don't have the presence to 'boss' a midfield on a consistent basis and keep possession of the ball, moves broke down as a result,it happened too many times last year .
Toszer is a player that has the physical stature and skill,we all know what Abdi offers but there is a piece of the jigsaw that is missing, I haven't seen him play but let's all hope Munari is that piece.

McGugan is a disruptive, sulky lazy player I hope he is the one that gets shipped out.

Yes, the home grown rule has remained at six, so we will be alright on this issue.

However, the second point about more than half of our squad is home grown is open to debate.

We now have this Munari, Parades, Gomes, Ekstrand, Angella, Tamas, Pudil, Batts, Fessi, Fabs, Abdi, Toszer, Ighalo, Ranegie, Vydra, and Iriney (still on the books). That makes a total of 16.

I make the home grown contingent to be:

Bond, Doyley, Cathcart, Hoban, Murray, McGugan, Anya, Deeney, Andrews, Dyer, O,Nien and Connor Smith - a total of 12.

You would be stretching a point to include the likes of Mensah, Doherty, and Ikpeazu, who are all likely to go out on loan (along with Smith and O'Nien), and hardly play in a first team so full of so many talented players ahead of them.

Thank God the rule was not changed from six to nine (but will be probably done next season), and let us hope for some good Cup runs where we can fully utilise our marvellous squad.

Yes because Adbi would score half of them and, by passing the ball to team mates, our strikers would score the rest. McG scores a good number but you have to factor in all the moves that break down with a wasted long range effort when a pass could have led to a goal for a teammate.

This blokes beard is not in the same ball park.

I disagree, i think McGugan has proven he scores goals at this level and your argument is based on your opinion of McGugan as a player and the possibility that the others will make up the shortfall in goals. However, I do think we will score more goals than last year, but i believe it'll be the sheer improvement in the quality at our disposal rather than Lewis McGugan's shortcomings.

Don't get me wrong, i love Abdi (our best player) and Tozser is an awesome player but if you add a goalscoring midfielder like McGugan to that central area, we are lethal. Goals win games and McGugan scores goals that's all i'm saying.

Some of the above commets seem to think we have already won the championship! Can't imagine what's wrong with a large squad - i think the lack of players has been a piece of the pie that has always gone against us. People....be happy ...we have many good players and have added another....go away you moaning minnies.

That's nice, but do we really need him? Just another mouth to feed in an already more than adequate squad...

With you snakehips :-)
Looking forward to our peaceful Saturdays away from the hooligans!!!!

The man himself has stated he is a box to box midfielder who likes to score goals and will defend when needed.
You are spot on with your comments and cannot believe some of the negativity towards him. Looking forward to seeing him play.
Glad you two love each other, good thing as you'll be sat together all season!

Ah the rabid cleric speaking in tongues...bas's number one seat warmer comes more to the fore with every post.
Come have a little chat with me at the salon, and there is one thing I won't have to repeat.
Now stop drinking the ceremonial wine, and back in your kennel...bad boy....
