It started with one man attempting to keep abreast of how his beloved Hornets were performing. Now, 20 years on, the Watford Mailing List has become a necessity for many Watford supporters.

A total of 876 members share stats, reflect on their Golden Boys memories and debate the day-to-day goings on at Vicarage Road.

At its peak more than 1,000 Hornets supporters received messages from the Mailing List.

For some overseas supporters it is a lifeline to the club they’ve left behind. For those closer to home, it gives them the chance to air their views on Watford to a wider audience.

The Watford Mailing List (WML) has come a long way since Gary Smith, a Hornets fan living in South Africa, posted a message on a news list on August 7, 1994 trying to contact fellow fans.

Jon Sinclair, who currently runs the WML, said: “I am delighted that it has survived 20 years and I look forward to the next 20.

“The change in technology over the past two decades has been phenomenal and WML has tried to embrace this.

“So I am very much looking forward to the next 20 years and hope we can continue to adapt to future change.”

Jon took over the running of the WML in 2005 and also runs a dedicated Watford website, www.wfc.net.

He believes the Mailing List will continue to provide Hornets supporters with the perfect platform to air their opinions.

He said: “It helps bring fans together but it also is a great way to spread the Watford word.

“If anyone is considering joining, it is free to join, they should send an e-mail to watfordml-subscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk.”
