Watford legend Luther Blissett to become PA announcer at Vicarage Road - with Richard Short and Tim Coombs no longer fulfilling their roles

Watford legend to do PA announcing at Vicarage Road

Watford legend to do PA announcing at Vicarage Road

Watford legend Luther Blissett will be reading out the teams before the Hornets’ matches at Vicarage Road this season.

Vibe 107.6 DJ Lee Partridge, who has worked for the club in the past, will be assisting him, which means long-standing duo Richard Short and Tim Coombs, who have been in the roles for the previous 16 and 15 years respectively, will no longer hold the positions. It is believed Coombs was offered a job at another club.

Midway through last season the Hornets decided to use Coombs and Short alternatively, when previously Coombs had read out the opposition teams, dedications and half-time scores with Short doing the rest of the work, including announcing the home teams before kick-off.

Now Partridge will do the first reading of the teams and look after the music. Blissett will take to the microphone at 2.45pm and do the final readings of the line-ups. Partridge will then do the announcing at half-time.

May be a Watford legend at football but not as an announcer. Not one of the Pozzos best decisions. But if you don't sort out the PA system properly I guess it really doen't matter who's announcing as you can't here them.

Just a personal view on Richard Short.
Whilst I have nothing at all against the fella personally, I've never warmed to his style of "announcing".
So often more about himself than anything else, he can come across as patronising, histrionic & with an amount of hyped-up fake emotion which he expects everyone to join in with. I well recall how he embarrassingly destroyed Graham Taylor's farewell in such a manner.
At last week's open day, he was equally self-obsessed reminding us all on more than one occasion of his personal "associations" with players. It's not about you mate.
So I suspect it's likely that someone further up the food chain also doesn't warm to his strutting 'me me me' style.
Sometimes change is for the better people.

All rather embarrassing today, both for Luther & the bloke on the PA system. Why did they not show the line ups on the screen until the teams were on the pitch? No one in the Rookery could hear the muffled PA system so the reading of the teams & interview with GNW was a waste of time.

The PA system was fine during most of Zola's firstseason but something happened last year. It seemed worse today ...just as bad at Vic Road...and had no idea Luther was now the announcer. Agree with all that this needs sorting out. Impressive result today as first outing...just luv those golden boys!

As The BestTrip2011 has rightly pointed out, Short had lost all sense of perspective and was becoming more and more irritating with his self deluded grandeur. Modesty was a characteristic sorely lacking as was his ability to PAUSE for effect during his monotonous announcements.

We have not been advised by the club of the reasons behind this decision, however Tony makes a fair point about the manner in which we would all wish to be treated when being let go by an employer. That said, if you really knew the culture of the professional football sector this is hardly a surprise.

Like many administrative staff at football clubs Short was a 'lifer' - all be it a part-timer, but quite frankly length of service in this particular case, is no substitute for genuine ability and he had to go. I believe this change will be for the best and expect the club to improve theinadequate PA system.

So far I've heard so much rubbish, such as he found out about his sacking by text or read it on the internet... I also heard he went AWOL and wouldn't answer his phone etc..... However it's probably his love of himself and his unwarranted abuse of public media that has caused the club concern and his current ungraciousness on twitter would appear to back that up. From a personal point of view he's always been the naffest of the naff match presenters, I shall not miss him.

Shorty.... nice lad.... but likes the sound of his own voice and the same music every week on the build up zzz zzz zzz ..... the bit about how he got sacked - we will never know the whole story as Shorty seems too emotional about it all but yes WFC could be at fault but personal attacks on staff and email addresses is pathetic! - take it on the chin and 'enjoyyyy the gaammmmmmmeeeeeeee - in the V Bar and have a few beers before watching the game maybe? No, instead does what he done hmmmm

also the fans on FB make me laugh.... (yes, yes, I do read it all! - better than TV sometimes)

So the Pozzo's/Duxberry want to shake it up and have a change....... No one whinged when they let half our pro-contacted players go (from academy also) as they are simply not good enough for the standard they require or want to be or set...... same in every area of the match day experience to be honest.

The one thing for sure WFC will not look at him ever again for any type of PA work and overall has made himself look totally unprofessional through the whole process (reaction based)......

Lee/Luthers first game they will get there... Lee is a DJ and hopefully changing it up 15 mins before kick - no speaking, loud inspirational music - teams over the scoreboard whilst they walk out then then KO!!!! - 'LOVE IT'..... if it doesnt work well Pozzo's have managed so far?!?! granted last season final place was annoying but we are stronger than ever in our history and in a difficult climate.....

only an opinion - roll on the shorty lovers and the countless dislikes

It's gonna be a long hard season, 46 games plus cups, we'll need every one of these players to get through it.
As far as Dyer goes; There's nothing wrong with passion, perhaps he showed a little too much but don't get on his back, the lad's done well so far. I actually think he could have expected to start in a 4-4-2/4-3-3 so he had a case.
However there is no I in team and it's up to the players to earn their place. If they have weaknesses then that's what they need to work on most because at the end of the day any good manager has to juggle the team and tactics to both win individual games and to last the season through. As the season progresses injuries alone will give plenty of opportunities for players to stake a regular berth.
Sannino may not be my perfect choice but he's definitely here on merit and his passion is there for all to see. He's done well in Italy so it's really about time he got the respect he deserves despite any language problems.
Those last minute goals last season are now a distant memory, most of our defensive frailties have been remedied and we still score at the other end, it's hardly reason to hound the man out of his job. His only blemish this season IMO was us not going to a 3-5-1 after losing Ekstrand at Norwich, it may have go us a point though a loss was always likely.
If managers get sacked for one tactical error then God help us all.
Bringe
