Watford head coach Beppe Sannino joked he was deaf after being asked about the future of Troy Deeney

Sannino jokes he is deaf to Deeney questions

Beppe Sannino has fielded countless questions regarding Troy Deeney’s future in recent weeks. The latest drew an amusing response from the Italian.

Deeney has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer and the Hornets have rejected bids from the likes of Leicester City and Burnley for the striker.

The 26-year-old didn’t feature against Stevenage last night as Sannino rotated his squad but the Watford head coach was asked after the game if Deeney’s absence was linked to a potential move away.

He responded: “There was a lot of wind on the bench and I have a pain in my ear. I can’t hear your question.”

Sannino later added: “I am head coach. Troy Deeney for me is a big player for Watford but this question is not for me. I am not manager, I am head coach and I am very happy to have Troy playing with me.

“But I also have Diego Fabbrini, Odion Ighalo and Matej Vydra and I am happy with them.”

He must be bored of answering the same hypothethical question in every single interview!

I think that TD9 will stay - and I very much hope that he does - but I think the question should be put to bed until there's some actual news.

I think there are 3 Premier teams that could bid £10m+ for TD as the window gets in its last few days and hours. Either out of panic as they haven't been able to the strikers they had wanted, or because they have lost a striker to someone else.

1. Leicester - still need another striker
2. QPR - If Remy leaves they need a replacement
3. West Ham - Need cover for the injured Carol and are getting nowhere.

I'm not saying they will succeed, but I do think they will all come knocking, especially if he continues scoring during August. Hopefully, WFC will still say no, but the next few weeks could be testing for us fans...we are not out of the woods yet! COYH

Totally agree with you.........There are a few clubs not on your list that need either a forward or back up. Hull, Everton and even Liverpool don't have any back up centre forwards! Last day of the transfer window is crazy and this year won't be any different

Even if they eventually sell, I think the Pozzos have proved themselves with this saga. Could have sold to Leicester for 7 mill, but stood their ground and demonstrated that, under them, no-one can push WFC around anymore.
There will be times this season when we will bemoan our luck regarding referring, hitting the post etc. But we need to remember how lucky we got when the Pozzos chose our club to invest in. The most astute businessmen in the league

I wouldn't be surprised to see Deeney head towards East Yorkshire and Hull City. We're about to sell Shane Long to Southampton for £12m + and can offer the lad European football, plus regular Premier League football.

Bruce lives him, the money is available and Europe must be tempting.

Unfortunately, given the Shane Long sale, this could be a very realistic situation too!

Everton won't spend £10m + on a striker having just broken their transfer record for Lukaku. Liverpool have Lambert as back-up, bought for £4m. They won't buy Deeney as well.

Hull and West Ham are good shouts and there is still the worry of Leicester and QPR.

I am hopeful that he will stay but if he does go for £10m + then none of us can really complain as that is terrific business for a guy who was very nearly let go for free 2 years ago!

There's a difference between not knowing what's going on regarding Deeney or having a say on transfers, and not knowing what he's doing.

Troy will be weighing up the pros and cons of any potential move.

The risk for him if he does turn down the chance of a crack at the premiership is that the chance might never come again if he was to suffer a serious injury or a severe loss of form.

On the other hand he doesn't just want to be a bench warmer or squad player and play regularly at that level.

Hopefully he will be feeling the love of the fans here and the good vibes around the place and have confidence that him and Vydra (and our other striking option) will get him there anyway.

Worse case scenario there is always the January transfer window.

Come on Troy stay with us !!!
