Harry Redknapp admits Queens Park Rangers were interested in a move for Troy Deeney but says Watford’s valuation of the striker is more than the club are willing to pay.

The 26-year-old, who netted in the Hornets’ 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, has been the subject of several transfer bids throughout the summer.

QPR and Leicester City have had offers of between £7.5m and £8m rejected by Watford, although the Foxes are expected to come in for the 26-year-old again with a bumper bid.

Redknapp says the Rs are still in the market for a striker but it appears his attention has turned away from Deeney.

“He is a player that we were interested in – it was just the fee,” Redknapp told London24.

“We made an enquiry. Watford have their own valuation and it was just a bit more than we felt we would want to pay.”
