Watford defender Daniel Pudil admits Joel Ekstrand's sending off 'messed everything up' for the Hornets against Norwich City

Daniel Pudil says Joel Ekstrand’s sending off in Watford’s 3-0 defeat to Norwich City “messed everything up” for the Hornets.

The Swedish defender was dismissed just three minutes into Saturday’s game for allegedly elbowing Nathan Redmond in the face.

The Canaries went on to comfortably win the game. Bradley Johnson opened the scoring with a deft finish over Heurelho Gomes and Lewis Grabban doubled the lead in the second period with a deflected chip over the Brazilian.

Alex Tettey smashed in a third for Norwich who used their man-advantage effectively throughout the contest.

Pudil said: “It is always difficult to play for 90 minutes with ten men and Norwich played well. But to be honest, most of their shots came well away from our goal and two of them scored with shots which went over Heurelho Gomes.

“The sending off messed everything up for us because we had been preparing for three or four days before the game. We just tried to stay compact and play as a team because it is very difficult to play against 11 men.

“I would say that Norwich did not have that many chances and we had a few chances ourselves, with one that was one-on-one. If we had scored that then it may have been a different game.

“We have lost the points but it is still very early in the season and we have to look forward to the next game.”

With hindsight an immediate swap with Hoban on and one of the forwards off (Vydra?) may have gained a point. With maybe Andrews on for Abdi at half time. Oh well

I have met Jason and I can assure he is no Scumton fan.
Just likes to say it as it is and has some inside connections. Pudil needs to shape up and perform on the pitch before he starts telling us why we lost and whos fault it was. Ekstrand has gone down hill alarmingly since his first season for us, just hope he can turn it around after a spell on the side lines.
Must win at Rotherham to restore confidence and get the momentum building. COYHs

Well, here's the thing, whatever you think of Jason's comments, he's certainly not a Luton fan and is a lot closer to the club than most of us. I can say no more than that.
But yes Pudil did play and was very poor.
He is one of our weaker links and just because he kisses the shirt and cuddles his kids each game does not make him a better player.

Ekstrand was quoted saying/showing that his shirt was being pulled, and adjusted this running style to compensate for the tug and redmond looking for contact..... even so, lino didnt give it.... not the last man.... really violent conduct?!? .... need to see at a better angle than the highlights!

Parades - can not play right back at all, yes I know he is a wing back, we had 1 player sent off but at times it felt like we have 2/3 players sent off

Tamas - worries me...... Hoban/Angella/sensib
le Elkstand all day long for me

Pudil - got back well

Tozser - he struggled to control the game as he usually does... again difficult to judge when a man down

just so frustrated as saturday would have been a good game 11 v 11 lets see what tomorrow brings.....

if Jason has such great contacts maybe he needs to show care.

Pudil attacks well at times without great powers of finishing and like so many of our team is attack minded. Joel messed up big time and has as others have said been pretty poor last season. makes you wonder why he is a regular pick. Howeve, early days and hopefully we can forget Joel's stupidity and as for his version he is best to stay silent.

-65 ? The truth does hurt sometimes , anyone that tells me Pudil had a good game I have no reply. I must be the only fan..yes fan...that thinks this then. All I will say is watch him , receives the ball on his left foot all the time looks up and his instinct is to pass sideways or backward across the back line , when attacking how many ball reach the forward player ? I can tell you a very low percentage make it across into the box and when defending he stands far too off his player and number of crosses cut out are less than the number of crosses that go in.

I said that we needed a new left wing back some time ago. Unfortunately, as Watford appear to mean a lot to Pudil, he lacks pace, can't shoot and his crossing is very poor.

In truth we could argue a lot of the players that are/were poor especially if you gauge it on the Norwich game alone, no one stood out and those we rely on did not step up especially when you fork out £35 quid to watch lumping balls and weak shots off target. I was desperate to look for positives but in truth there were none apart from the fact it could have been 5-0 in truth without some great saves by gomes or blocks by the defence, they dominated us, there passing was crisper and there shots were mostly from distance because they worked out Gomes weakness, he likes to play forward. I do not like saying this as we know we have 2 of the best forwards in the league but they were just not getting the supply apart from loft feeds which 9 times out of 10 were knocked away sometimes unfairly but not enforced by the dire ref and when they did have the ball made nothing of it. I don't like players finger pointing and Pudil should know better, this gets dealt with in the changing room by the manager and players, hopefully all this just turns out to be a wake up call about not being a walk in the park, we have 6 new players in the squad with 2 alreadyclassed as first teamers and add a returning player in Vydra and we need time to gel and back into the groove of how we connect, the Bolton win made us think we were going in full steam but in truth I think it will be a hop scotch first few months before we get this. One point I still am very unsure of is how the manager copes, because so far he hasn't! Onward and upwards for tonights game.

Must win at Rotherham to restore confidence and get the momentum building. COYHs[/p]
Keith don't speak the truth, the tools here don't like it. Pudil had a great game btw, it's obvious by the amount of defensive posts about him. He is one of the weak links in the side. Lot of armchair fans on these forums it appears[/p]
Onward and upwards for tonights game.[/p]
Yes Corby, can't disagree You there?[/p]
Unfortunately not on lates tonight so missing this, but will tune in when can. corbindallas
