Watford made an inauspicious start to what would prove to be their first promotion season in more than 50 years, drawing 0-0 with Stockport County at Vicarage Road.
The game was Watford's first in their new colours of gold and black, the accompanying 'Hornets' nickname had also already been selected in a competition run by the Supporters' Club.
Dennis Uphill was among four home debutants.
