The day's Watford Observer was the first to feature a Terry Challis cartoon.
These cartoons would be a popular part of the newspaper's coverage for more than 25 years.
Jimmy Lindsay and Ron Wigg dominated this debut, the latter's goal in the opening day victory over Tranmere Rovers almost a fortnight earlier provoking the cartoonist's suggestion that his 'disguise' beard would no longer be necessary.
