Hornets goalkeeping coach Alec Chamberlain believed Tommie Hoban was the Golden Boys’ man-of-the-match in Watford’s 2-0 victory at Rotherham United last night but do you agree?

The young defender was deployed at left-back and was solid defensively and created Gianni Munari’s goal with a moment of trickery in the Millers penalty area.

Lloyd Dyer was only introduced in the 65th minute at the New York Stadium but he netted the opening goal and his pace caused the home side’s defence problems.

Another substitute, Odion Ighalo, impressed after coming on in place of Matej Vydra. The Nigerian striker held the ball up well and could have won a penalty when he was brought down in the penalty area.

Creative Italian midfielder Diego Fabbrini was included in the starting XI for the first time in the Championship this season.

He stood out in the opening period as one of the few Hornets players to look dangerous when the visitors had possession.

If Fabs is in the shortlist then I have to vote for him!!!

Munari got mixed reports on Twitter, from watching the game live I was fairly impressed.

And parades ... Don't start me off on him ... Bolton must have been really bad!!!

Hoban had a fantastic game, great in defence, composed and collected on the ball and set up munaris goal with a great bit of skill and good vision. One of the only players to play well both halves, can see it being anyone but him

Has to be Hoban. There were quite a few fans near me getting on Fabbrini's back during the game but I thought he did very well and Ighalo and Dyer looked good when they came on. Munari looked a bit lost to me.

Hoban was one of the only players who played well in both halves. In fact, all the back line (excepting Parades and including Gomes) had a good game all game. Hoban was the best of the defenders, and so he has to be the man of the match.

Ighalo changed the game when he came on for Matty. Don't mean to be negative but Fabb went down whenever there was a player within 5 yards of him and there was no end product from him once in the game. Lloyd - great to see your passion, that is what we need. Hope you start on Saturday!

Hoban just shaded it from Fabbrini for me (who was fouled constantly because Rotherham couldn't cope with him). I agree that the end product could have been better from Fabbrini but he had his legs taken from him every time he got past the defender, the referee's need to get the cards out to prevent this. Tamas also looked quality last night and the midfield of Munari and Andrews looked solid but lacked any attacking flair which Abdi or Murray would have provided. Vydra and Paredes were completely off the pace and lacked a first tough. Ighalo looked a threat and should have stayed onside for his disallowed goal. Deeney did okay but in general it was a good three points and another clean sheet against a Rotherham team who seemed that they were up for it more than what we were.

You have to remember Paredes has played all his football in Ecuador. Not only is the football completely different, so is life. He needs time to adjust. He will do a good job for us. Hoban is outstanding, he must be a regular, barring injury. Sannino pick him every game.

Hopefully back to 3 5 2 on Saturday with Hoban starting, of course ( potentially the best central defender since big John McClelland IMHO) plus Anya and Pudil As wing backs AMA Abdi somewhere. Thought we went up a gear last half hour last night but what went before was pretty drab stuff. I dont expect to just turn up and win a game but slightly underwhelmed by several performances last night. Never mind, a good three points when all said and done and visited several brilliant pubs and met some cracking Roth fans. Bring on Leeds

Me to what nice people they are in Rotherham and so close to Sheffield as well :-) Hoban a class act and Gomes kept us in the game with two excellent saves.

Hoban clear MOTM for me. His distribution and the skill for the 2nd goal was excellent and not really what you would expect from a central defender. Seems he can play any position across the back line which is a massive bonus. Agree with Exeter, he reminds me of Mclelland a lot as well.

Fabrinni was ok, but still want to see him on the ball in the penalty area, Ighalo and Dyer both played very well when they came on and changed the direction of the game in our favour.

Paredes, okay so he had a bad night at the races? He is still getting used to to being out of his country let alone the physical side of the Championship. Would you want to be judged on just a few games? Give the guy a break.....
