Oxhey Jets produced their best performance of their fledgling season but suffered a 2-1 defeat against Premier Division league leaders Berkhamsted on Tuesday evening.

Jets controlled the opening period. Sim Armstrong headed against the post before Lee Armitt put the visitors deservedly in front.

Luke Beardsworth and Jon Daily combined and Armitt placed his shot past Carl Tasker to put Oxhey ahead at the break.

The hosts dictated play in the second period and levelled ten minutes after the restart. Chamberlain shaped to shoot from a free kick but passed to Courtney Massey and his cross was bundled in by Jamie Gavin.

Berkhamsted continued to carve out chances and their pressure resulted in a second goal. BJ Christie was fouled in the penalty area and a spot kick was awarded. Chamberlain stepped up and converted to secure victory for the home side.

Jets and Berko were in FA Cup action on Saturday but both exited the competition at the extra preliminary round stage.

Oxhey were beaten 5-1 by AFC Rushden and Diamonds while Berko suffered a 3-1 defeat against Ashford Town.

Armitt scored for Jets while Berko’s consolation was an own goal by Rob Curtis.
