Watford re-signed Hemel Hempstead-born forward Tommy Smith from Derby County three years after his departure for Sunderland.

Ostensibly a panic buy to fill a gap on the right-hand side of midfield as the transfer window closed at the start of a Premiership season, Smith quickly re-established himself as a crowd favourite at Vicarage Road.
