Watford hosted West Ham United at Vicarage Road in a match that was combustible both on and off the pitch.
The first Football League meeting between the two sides saw Watford record their first league victory since promotion from the third division the previous season, Luther Blissett getting both goals.
Watched by a crowd of more than 23,000, the match was marred by crowd trouble as several hundred of the larger-than-anticipated visiting support gained access to the Vicarage Road terrace.
