Watford head coach Beppe Sannino says he has not asked the club to clarify if his future is in doubt because he believes “the results are speaking clearly”.

Ten days ago we reported that Sannino’s future as Hornets boss was in serious doubt and we understand that is still the case despite the club being in the automatic promotion places.

Some of the club’s senior players are unhappy with Sannino’s management style and we understand there are also issues with the training.

However, on the pitch Sannino’s Watford are achieving what the owners desire; with the Golden Boys winning four of their five Championship matches and sitting in the top two.

One national newspaper also reported that Sannino’s future was in doubt today and the Italian was asked if the club had spoken to him about whether his job was at risk, after today’s 4-2 victory over Huddersfield Town.

He said: “No. I am the gaffer at Watford and I am happy with the result. But I don’t know about the other situation.”

He later added: “I don’t speak about this situation.”

So has Sannino asked the club if the reports are true?

“I have not asked the club because ... (it was then unclear what Sannino said).”

One of Watford’s press officers then asked if the media would not ask any more questions on Sannino’s future.

But when Sannino was asked to clarify the last part of his answer, he added: “I don’t think I am in a position to ask the club about my future because the results are speaking clearly.

“I work always. This is my job. I love my job and I love everything about Watford.”

Unprompted, Sannino then added: “There is a sad feeling in the [press] room but we should be happy because we won a difficult match. Smile.”

Watford won 4-2 this afternoon despite twice losing a lead and then having Gabriel Tamas sent off with the score level.

Sannino believes that today he saw something from his team that he had not seen before.

He said: “I am very happy with the result because I saw a team made up of great men. It is the first time for me that I’ve seen this commitment and effort from my lads. I saw my face on the pitch today.

“I watched friends on the pitch help each other and that is fantastic. So I am very happy for them, the fans and also for you [the local journalists].”

He continued: “This is my mentality and my way to work. You don’t know me or my past very well.

“In my life I was managing a team from League Two [in Italy] and I reached Serie A because all of the teams I have managed have had my mentality and aggressiveness to win games.

“Today I am very happy because for 30 minutes I was watching a team I want to see every game.”

Asked if he believes Watford have that same mentality as his other teams, Sannino continued: “I think my lads understood today that if they stick together and suffer together then they can become a great team.

“They enjoyed today and that is the most important thing today.”

“We have had good performances in the past but with this one I particularly feel like it was one [of Watford’s best performances under my reign],” Sannino said.

“Not because of quality but because of the passion and the heart.”
