Beppe Sannino has resigned as the Hornets’ head coach, the Watford Observer understands.

We understand Sannino has been considering his future after it became clear that several senior players and the club were unhappy with his managerial style.

The Watford Observer first broke the news that Sannino’s future was in serious doubt 12 days ago.

Click here and here to read Sannino's thoughts from his final game in charge, yesterday's 4-2 victory against Huddersfield Town

Are you happy now Frank? Couldn't care less if a few players are unhappy, judging by Saturday the players showed togetherness, passion and we are top scorers in the league. Could not ask for much more from him really.

Look forward to the Watford Observer backing the manager and acting in the interest of its readers again. I'm not saying WO are responsible for the resignation and maybe it is true that the club didn't like his management style but I do feel he has been treated poorly.

All the best to Beppe and whoever comes in to replace him

Like Beppe or not this is now an opportunity to attract a top manager who can enhance our chances of promotion and staying in the Prem if promoted. Mr Pozzo whilst we fully understand your desire for an Italian manager who you can communicate easily with, please may we humbly suggest our next manager speaks English? This would improve communication with the fans through the Media and communication with the British based players. I met BS in St Albans High Street on Thursday. Whilst he was a really, really nice guy who was very happy to stop and chat to me, it really was tough trying to communicate with him, so I can only imagine this is likely to be incredibly frustrating for the non-Italian speaking players on the training pitch. Di Matteo would be perfect, but would he come to Watford?

Pretty disgraceful in my opinion, given the league position. Not ever necessarily been his biggest fan but a manager should not be pushed out in this way - why wait until 5 games into this season? Everyone knew his style in May, why not do it then and allow the new manager a pre-season with the squad? Now a new manager needs to come in with a new style and new approach but get them firing from day 1! I will get right behind the new man but I'm not too happy about the way WFC have gone about this. Final note - the grass is not always greener!

Either that or every manager with a brain will be scared off.... Zola takes us to within 90 minutes of promotion in season 1, twice, yet leaves before Xmas the following season. Sannino has us as top scorers in the league and in 2nd place after 5 games and us pushed out. I know for one that I wouldn't want to work for a boss like that

I swore at the start of the season that I would refrain from commenting on here until I had seen match thirteen, and would form my judgement on Beppe then. However, after this----.
I respect Lutondown, Buckler et al for their inside knowledge of the club, and when they declared that Beppe was going, I believed. Doesn't mean I like what has just happened, tho'. I only hope that when the background to this emerges over time, we can see that it is justified.
Usually I find I agree with Watford 'sackings' or 'forced' resignations---even Dyche, who I wanted to stay, I could understand---new broom, new owners. This I just feel very, very uncomfortable about. When has this club ever sacked (o.k. resigned) a manager after winning four out of their five previous league games and the league leading scorers?

Lutondown, will details emerge that will show this is justified?

In any event, I wish Beppe all the best for the future.

As regards to Beppe if his only fault was to be passionate one has to feel for him. I think with the backing of Deeney and idiots like Mcsqueakalot and Dyer not behaving like children we could have reached the promissed land with Beppe.

personally wish him every success and would like to say TU for what u have done.

r. The only question that matters is "Does this man maximize our chances of success?" The Pozzos have clearly concluded that the answer to that question is no. Therefore, he goes. Cold-blooded, yes but also the right calculation, at least in my judgment. Management owes a duty, to the players and the fans, to put the team in the best position to win. If Sannino, or anyone else, can be replaced by someone who improves our odds, then a move should be made.

As fans, we don't really know what was happening in the squad. We don't know why the players gave up so appallingly last Spring or why the Sannino was so unpopular. The Pozzos and Scott Duxbury have information that we do not and, in their judgment, they concluded the team was more likely to succeed with someone other than Sannino. Given their track record, I think you have to give a lot of weight to their judgment. Perhaps the story will trickle out and we will ultimately know enough to form our own considered opinion but right now, anyone in the public who claims to know exactly what happened is probably just projecting their own point of view onto an ink-blot.

Finally, I hope that all the critics who have been savaging Frank Smith for the last few weeks as a trouble-maker who is creating a phony story will have the decency to apologize. Plainly, Frank has good sources at the club and he has been on top of this story for some time. We and the club are fortunate to have someone doing real reporting on the Hornets.

If we were in Leeds' league position I can understand, but this the best start for...how many seasons... and have scored 13 league goals in 5 matches and only failed to score when down to 10 men for 94 mins.

I wish Beppe well. But who next? I hope this is not a careful what you wish for moment.

Who would you want? Malky is untouchable re his racism. Robert di Matteo. Who? Personal choice would be Glenn Hoddle.

I'm sure there's a lot more to this than us average fans ever know about, but being very simplistic, it seems crazy after our start to this season.
It's not blind faith, but I strongly believe that our owners and senior management know what they're doing; their record with the Udinese business model speaks for itself.
I hope and believe they have someone in mind already who will take us onto even greater success including the ultimate aim of sustainable, premier league football. COYH.

Brilliantly well put. Couldn't agree more.

Usually I find I agree with Watford 'sackings' or 'forced' resignations---even Dyche, who I wanted to stay, I could understand---new broom, new owners. Lutondown, will details emerge that will show this is justified?

In any event, I wish Beppe all the best for the future.

I don't understand the anti-WO posts on here, they have not caused this to happen, they simply report what is actually happening. IMO they have done that far better over the past couple of years than the somewhat adversarial approach that was adopted previously.

The situation is disappointing, but we have to move on, get behind the club and ensure this does not impact our push for promotion. There is bound to be a lot more to this than has already come out.

I believe this will be a blessing and hopefully we bring a decent manager in who can get this squad playing as it should be not having a good half then looking all over the place the next.

RDM would be my favourite but I can't see it? I actually can't think of another person who: can speak English, knows this league or has knowledge of English football, plays exciting football on the deck, can cuddle and motivate players and doesn't scream in their faces!.... Because let's face it, that's what we apparently want or need or insist we must have! Hence why Beppe feels so undermined that he's decided to pack it in!
I just hope this hasn't ruined our season, only time will tell!
I will support our club no matter what but it's not wrong for me or others to feel disappointed and let down by what has happened!
Let's face it, if we don't go up we can say bye bye to Deeney, Angella, Vydra, Abdi and Toszer! Contract or no contracts... Like I say, be careful on what you wish for!

Feel for Beppe, had alot of time for a guy that worked as a hospital porter which is probably why he didn't suffer some of our whinging babies who are payed thousands and " work " a lot less than 40 hours a week. It the seems the club weren't happy with Zolas training and they weren't happy with Beppe's training. Should of gone in May rather than actually let him stay on until now...badly done by the club I'm afraid.
I hope whoever comes in is good at working with spoilt brats! Also who's to say they will fair any better than Beppe? We have a large squad so game time for some will be limited so not sure much will change as trying to keep everyone happy. And I love how those with " inside " knowledge never actually give any real details of what's going on....

Regardless of what has happened with the players, Beppe leaves us in a better position than when he came here and deserves our thanks for that. Some of the gloating comments on here are so disrespectful. He was clearly someone who wanted the team to do well and in public always represented the club in a positive light - refusing to criticise referees and giving credit to other teams when they played well. The constant comments about him being a clown and a hospital porter from some people are shameful - I'm presuming the people posting these have also achieved five promotions with professional teams in their career as managers? He may not have been the right fit for Watford but he has had success in his career and I wish him well for the future.

What the hell are these happy clappers going on about, do they attend the games as if they do they are at a different ground to me and others. Beppe time was always going to be short with his hard attitude, we have scrapped the wins against lesser teams so far and it sure as hell was not through BS doing, the players have manged this with a large dose of luck. His subs have been questionable, his tactics have been questionable through player choice and plan B's and he was told to give certain players a go and didn't despite assurances given by the senior management to these NEW players, he also was dishing out fines and pis sing off players in training behind the scenes. How much of this gets told I don't know but believe me this was not just Dyer and McGugan it included players like Deeney, Deeney he even told us when he gave a interview to the WO about who should be in the first team against Huddersfield!!! I and others haven't been calling his head because he is not English or a Championship experienced manager it was because of his poor decisions. As said on previous post was told Zola was being touted to return, however we will wait and see very soon!

I totally agree. I have attended all Watford's matches this season. I have not been convinced with Beppe's tactics or selections in most matches. Whilst I am sad to see him go, I believe that, with this squad of players, what has been achieved so far could have been achieved with many "average" managers with the talent we have available. I was particularly concerned at the Norwich match when we were down to 10 men after 3 minutes. To me the obvious thing to do was for Vydra to be sacrificed for Andrews, the perfect person with Championship experience who could fill that midfield void . Instead Beppe left things as they were and we were overrun in the 2nd half to such an extent that Norwich could have scored 6 goals had they not taken their feet off the pedal. Personally I felt that any manager with any sort of experience should have seen this and was surprised that Beppe did not. My second point is the team selection for the Huddersfield match. Whilst I was in raptures along with everyone else in the way we won the game, I was extremely disappointed that Beppe brought Ekstrand straight back into the side at the expense of Hoban who had been outstanding in the two games he had stood in. I think this had an unsettling effect on the other 2 central defenders who looked more vulnerable because they are not able to cover for Ekstrand who is likely to make mistakes which Hoban does not. Consequently the defence looked more shaky than it has all season purely because the manager chose to bring back Ekstrand. I was also disappointed that Anya started the match in front of Paredes and Dyer. We have to put aside our thoughts about Dyer's actions at Rotherham to look at the player and what he can bring to the side. In my humble opinion he brings more, at the present time, than Anya who is going through a very lean period. Just look how influencial Paredes was when he replaced Anya and perhaps you can understand my point. This is not to underestimate Beppe and his passion which is there for all to see but I do believe that this decision, however it was taken, will be in the best interests of W.F.C I believe that the obvious available candidate is Steve Clarke who has the necessary Championship and Premiership experience and would be an outstanding choice.

Of course not, it serves no purpose. In these days of libellous ambulance chasing type lawyers and PC who would dare speak the truth. It wasn't the two touted players alone who got this to happen, as it wasn't the daft insinuation that it was somehow Frank Smiths fault, it was a very unhappy squad as a whole, who didn't want to be tasting Beppes spaghetti as he hollered instructions at them in a language even his fellow Italians struggled with.
That's what I've heard, but who knows the full facts?

I have not posted on here for a while now. Lets make sense of this then. When Gianfranco Z was here people complained about him being too much of a nice man!! He goes and Sannino comes in with more of an aggressive approach ensuring players don't get too arrogant and cocky and straightaway we have so called WFC fans calling for his head even though he nearly got us into the play off's with a few games of the season left and then he starts off the new season with some superb results and 2 games with 10 men on the field one ending in victory and one in defeat. We are 2nd in the table and looking strong and the players are playing with heart and guile!! In my opinion WFC fans will forever criticise managers based on average results. In football you will win and lose and draw games but what is the most important is keep on with unconditional support and carry on getting behind the team and let them know we are the 12th man week in and week out. I am getting so sick and tired of attending matches sitting in the Lower Rous and thinking to myself there are so many people who love to open thier mouths when it comes to posting on here but then sit down like plums in silence in a ground where players and managers expect and want the fans to help carry the players through matches. When we are not doing so well this is when we need to get up and sing sing sing for the players. And please for f--- sake when you do see others get up and sing to start supporting the team others who don't like it and say sit down can you p--- off and go and support Luton Town as you don't deserve to be a Watford fan. Well done to the 1881 for thier vocal support but this needs to be repciprocated around the whole ground so it really does seem like a fortress. We need voices from the Rookery, Upper and Lower Rous and Family Terrace and then when the new Community stands open. Finally Beppe you may have not been liked by many Watford Fans but you done a great job and good luck in the future. Sorry to see you go.

It is not solely down to aggresive treatment it is down to not picking your best players it is down to not having a proper plan b it is down to ignoring senior managements advice on certain players it is down to choice of subs and timing, it is down to excessive training regimes and it is down to a personality complex with strained communication issue at the end of the day you look at end result and think everything is fine but it is not behind the closed doors, this needed sorting before we take on the bigger and better set up squads so far we have scrapped wins against lower table teams or lost against 2nd class teams!! Farewell Beppe a little man with standards who stood up for himself against all odds, all the very best for the future.
