Watford midfielder Keith Andrews believes new head coach Oscar Garcia and his predecessor, Beppe Sannino, are "polar opposites" and believes the Spaniard is a "very good appointment".

The Republic of Ireland international spent last season playing under Garcia at Brighton and Hove Albion and believes he and Sannino are completely different.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Andrews said: "They're polar opposites really. The old manager was a bit of an old-school-type figure; he had old-school values, a hard work-ethic and set his teams up to be hard to beat.

"I think with the new manager coming in, he's obviously got that little bit of Barcelona flair, which is what made him an attractive option to Brighton in the first place. It's a good squad; it's a good opportunity and I felt that anybody getting the job was getting a real good opportunity for genuine promotion.

"I think the squad on paper is a fantastic squad and realistically we need to be challenging at the top of the table," added Andrews.

Andrews was brought to the AmEx Stadium on loan from Bolton Wanderers by Garcia last season and is confident the former Barcelona youth coach will be a good appointment for the Hornets.

"Certainly from my experience, it's a good appointment," said Andrews. "He plied his trade at Barcelona's academy and then took the brave step - I would say - to go and manage in Israel at Tel Aviv. He has a year's experience at Championship level under his belt with Brighton last year and led us to the play-offs, so for me it seems a very good appointment."
