Watford Ladies manager John Salomon says his side have to “start turning chances into goals” after drawing a blank for the third consecutive match but believes he has “proven goal scorers”.

The Hornets were beaten 3-0 at home by Durham Women on Sunday, their third defeat on the trot without scoring, and Salomon admits his side are “struggling to score” at present.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “In any game you have to take your chances and we’re not at the moment, we’re struggling to score.

“The players are there and the goal scorers are there, there’s players in that strike force that are proven goal scorers. We’ve got to start turning those chances into goals now.”

Salomon continued: “Thursday night’s (tomorrow's) game with Millwall will be a really interesting one. We’ll go there and give it absolutely everything because we’ve got to get ourselves back on track.”

Jo Wilson had the first chance of the game for Watford, bringing a good save out of Durham goalkeeper Danielle Hill early on.

Zoe Ness came close for the visitors, shooting narrowly wide from the edge of the 18-yard box.

In the 26th minute, Durham did take the lead when Ness worked the ball into Beth Hepple, who picked out the bottom corner from 20 yards out following a neat passage of play.

Megan Wynne responded ten minutes later, lobbing the onrushing Hill, only to see her effort cleared off the line by the covering Durham defender.

Six minutes before the break, Chloe Gunn almost equalised, diverting a Wynne cross towards goal but Hill was in the way, getting a hand to the shot.

Durham notched their second shortly after the hour mark to take the game away from the Hornets.

After a free-kick from the left was headed away, Jordan Atkinson controlled well on her chest before letting fly from fully 30 yards, crashing a looping effort beyond Lauren Davey.

In injury time, Durham added a third in fortuitous circumstances. What should have been a routine header back to Davey ended up going past the keeper, following a breakdown in communication at the back.

The grateful Jemma Purfield was alert to the situation and took full advantage, nipping in to tuck into an empty net to complete the win.
