Watford remain confident part of the East Stand will be open for their next home game in two weeks time and are hopeful it will be fully complete a fortnight later.

The club are planning to partly open the new structure for the match with Bournemouth on Saturday, September 20.

The Hornets then hope to have the whole stand in use for the game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, October 4.

The new East Stand looks far from complete but due to its design, can be built quicker than most stadiums.

The structure, which will officially be called The Watford FC Community Stand, will house around 3,400 fans and we believe it has cost the Pozzo family in excess of £3.5m.

Since Sannino and his backroom boys have left no progress on the stand. I am sure it will be completed before the end of 2014, but if this is the quick way to build, presume the Pozzo's ancestors were involved in building Rome. Anyway the new stand is a great statement of intentions, and once full will real add to the atmosphere and match day experience.

That's around £1030 per seat, so a full stand will pay for itself in a couple of years. Sounds like good value for money.

What do you know about football stand construction? ? How do you know whether work has been done beneath or behind the seating area?? It makes me laugh when people suddenly become experts on stuff they know nothing about.

Why are fans continually looking for negatives?? Whether it's on the pitch or behind the scenes. Even if they left tomorrow the Pozzos have been a godsend. Don't you remember what state the club was in only 3yrs ago??

Some people have short memories.

It's about more than just revenue, we will finally have all 4 sides of the pitch occupied again. It will be for more fortress-like with fans shouting from all sides (except the upper GT where excessive noise is not tolerated!). We will also have the ability to extend the new stand as demand for tickets increases when we reach the promised land.

For anyone who is interested, the workers have been making progress in the concourse area below the stand and are probably a few finishing touches away from making that side ready for the Bournemouth game. When they have completed that they can then concentrate on getting the other side up. I guess nobody can see the progress underneath without walking past every day ;-)

As I said "The new stand is a great statement of intentions, and once full will real add to the atmosphere and match day experience". The fact is though Torquay built the same kit stand in 8 months, presumably on a technically easier site. Anyway just one third of the structure (steels, concourse area, etc) to go and it will be finished.

Great that at least part of the stand will soon be open and understand that the method of construction means easy addition to the Rookery end but still reckon that the electricity sub station at that end is at least partially part of the hold up and may take some time to resolve. Still, will be cracking to view the ground from that side after so long. Reckon the addition of noise from all sides will boost performances too!

Did Torquay have a brand new state of the art dressing room and house match day officials etc? The remaining part to be built will be purely seating and therefore will go up a lot quicker.

The new stand is expandable. Add to the fact that if they level the pitch, this will in itself add a lot of space for extra seating all around the ground.

Not if they just move from other parts of the ground ? Its about getting more bums on seats and getting to a target of say 18,000 for each home game....then its a brilliant investment. If we get in Premiership then its a nooooo brainer ! Great investment !
Get in the Prem and I'd imagine the second tier on the East Stand would soon follow.
What chance our first 20,000+ home gate for over a decade before October's out?? ...if not Brighton then for the Forest game.

Just on a slightly different note, is it only me or does anyone else believe the pre match stuff over the tannoy system is not quite right and not as professional?

Z Cars is always started too late and when the teams are nearly half way across the pitch. Timing is awful. And, in my opinion the announcements are not as professional as they used to be. i.e. timing and announcement of the teams etc. They are shouted and not announced, or in some cases not pronounced right.

Not sure about the new music either. Used to love the trio of Good Feeling (Flo Rida), It's Gonna Be Alright (Technocat) and Give It up. Just something about them that adds to the pre match feeling.

Do we miss Shorty and Tim Coombs by any chance? I realise just how professional and good they were.
